200 Years of Fishing Knowledge, Packed into One Seminar

by Ryan Collins

My father-in-law always used to say that "prior proper planning, prevents piss poor performance." So in that light, today I began organzing the 2024 My Fishing Cape Cod Season Kickoff Workshop!

The event is scheduled for the morning of Saturday March 30th at the Cape Cod Conference Center in Hyannis. At this year's kickoff we'll have a panel of professional charters captains to answer your questions and provide insider intel for fishing the waters surrounding the Cape & Islands.

I'm also happy to report that discounted tickets for the 2024 Season Kickoff Workshop will go on sale starting on Black Friday! It's guaranteed to be a value packed morning and it'd be great to see you there, so be sure to stay tuned this Black Friday for your chance to scoop up discounted tickets well in advance.

Tonight wanted to share the video recording of our first season kickoff workshop, which was fashionably titled "Cod and Coffee". You can get an idea of what to expect by watching the video. However this year's event is shaping up to be much bigger. We will have much more space this year so my goal is to have 150+ people in the audience!

200 Years of Knowledge Packed into One Seminar

Back on Saturday March 26th, 2022 we hosted "Cod and Coffee" - a networking and educational event at Cape & Islands Mitsubishi in South Yarmouth. We had over 50 people from My Fishing Cape Cod attend and I had an awesome time chatting with familiar faces and meeting new people.

We also had a terrific lineup of Cape Cod charter captains and guest speakers for this event. These guys cumulatively have over 200 years of knowledge and experience fishing the waters surrounding Cape Cod and the Islands.

I recorded the seminar portion which runs at just over 1.5 hours. Topics covered include cod and haddock fishing, pollock fishing, flounder fishing, striper fishing and fluke fishing.

If you are logged-in as a member of My Fishing Cape Cod then you can watch the video right now by clicking below. If you are not a member then please signup and then return to this page to watch. ✌🏻

In this video you will hear presentations from the following charter captains and guest speakers:

  • Captain Jimmy Koutalakis of On Time Charters. Captain Jim is known locally as “Jimmy the Greek” and if it swims off Cape Cod then Jimmy knows how to catch it!
  • Captain Tony Biski from Take it E-Z charters. Captain Tony specializes in fly fishing the waters surrounding Monomoy Island for stripers, bluefish and false albacore.
  • Captain Mike Fowler from Bad Dog Sportfishing. Mike is an expert at catching flounder, squid, haddock, tuna, stripers, bluefish and more.
  • Fisheries scientist and My Fishing Cape Cod member Nick Calabrese. Nick’s PhD project is a trawl survey that uses video cameras to count cod.
  •  Monomoy Tackle founder and My Fishing Cape Cod member Eddy Kooyomjian. Eddy provided great information about fishing for cod and haddock.
  • And of course MFCC member and Cape & Islands Mitsubishi owner Bruno Demir. Bruno is a great resource for fluke fishing.

Below are some photos and images recapping the morning. Thanks again to everyone who was in attendance. I had a great time!
