In this fishing report, I'd like to bring you with me on my latest Cape Cod squid fishing adventure. I'm no squid expert, but in this post I will give you some helpful tips and advice for catching squid on your own.

Over the next two weeks the bottom fishing in Vineyard Sound and Buzzard's Bay should really start to heat up.

For me, the Cape & Islands are like an adult playground. If you enjoy outdoor adventures, then Cape Cod is a good place to call home.

This rings especially true during the early spring. During April and May, many different species of wildlife and fish are migrating into Cape waters.

ryan collins my fishing cape cod breakfast

Some people get confused when they realize they have to pay a small amount of money in order to get full access to the My Fishing Cape Cod website.

The reality is that the website's monthly membership fee is exactly what makes everything you see here on My Fishing Cape Cod possible.

Today I want to take a moment to explain a bit more about the pay-for-access concept.

I originally published this post in 2017, however I like to re-publish this post every so often because we always have new people here on the website.

So without further ado, below are my top 3 reasons why charging for access to MFCC makes perfect sense. 👇

Trout on the Attack | New Underwater Footage

ryan collins my fishing cape cod breakfast

In this post we'll go underwater to watch brown and rainbow trout as they chase down and attack a variety of lures.

During these trips I was kayak fishing two different kettle ponds in the towns of Sandwich and Brewster.

I've found kayak fishing Cape Cod's kettle ponds to be a peaceful experience - especially right now with everything going on in the world.

Trolling For Trout On Cape Cod

ryan collins my fishing cape cod breakfast

This week I launched my kayak for the first time this year. My plan was to troll the shoreline of Cape Cod's kettle ponds in search of trout.

Not only was I able to catch some nice fish, but I was also able to film trout underwater as they approached my lures!

In this post I'm excited to share with you new "breathtaking" underwater trout footage, as well as some tips and lessons I learned about trolling for trout here on Cape Cod.

River Herring Have Arrived On Cape Cod

ryan collins my fishing cape cod breakfast

Life is very different for most of us right now due to the corona virus. However, the cycles of nature continue undisturbed.

One event which many Cape Codders and New Englanders look forward to each spring is the arrival of river herring.

Yesterday morning as I was walking my dog, I could hear ospreys and hawks chirping from high above the trees for the first time this spring. This was a strong clue that river herring may have arrived.

Angler Education: River Herring

ryan collins my fishing cape cod breakfast

Yesterday morning as I was walking my dog, I could hear ospreys and hawks chirping from high above the trees. This was a sure-fire sign that river herring had arrived.

During the spring, hawks, ospreys and other birds of prey gather near herring runs. These impressive birds will snatch river herring as they swim up shallow streams en route to spawn.

I hustled over to the closest herring run to my house in the town of Bourne. I scanned the shallow pools for signs of life, and sure enough just below one of the fish ladders was a beautiful school of herring.

Trout Fishing Cape Cod With Spoons and Stickbaits

ryan collins my fishing cape cod breakfast

Note from Ryan: This post was originally published on April 5th, 2019. I figured now would be a good time to re-publish this post, because freshwater is where all the action is at right now until the stripers arrive!

Right now is one of the most exciting times of the year on Cape Cod. Everyone is chomping at the bit for the arrival of striped bass.

We still have a few more weeks until the first schoolie stripers migrate to the Cape, but until then many anglers here on MFCC have been hitting the kettle ponds for trout.

Cape Cod is blessed with hundreds of gorgeous little ponds. Many of these kettle ponds were carved out thousands of years ago by glaciers during the last ice age. The ponds are deep, often have amazingly clear water, and are surrounded by wonderful scenery and nature.
