May 10th Fishermen’s View Meetup: Connecting Women who Fish on Cape Cod

by Ryan Collins

While fishing has traditionally been male-dominated, more women are discovering the joy and thrill of angling every year. As the founder of My Fishing Cape Cod, I've noticed this exciting shift and want to help foster connections among female anglers.

Are you a woman who loves to fish Cape Cod?

On May 10th at Fishermen's View Restaurant in Sandwich we're hosting a meetup exclusively for women anglers. This will be a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Connect with other women who share a passion for fishing
  • Exchange tips and techniques specific to Cape Cod waters
  • Build friendships and potential fishing partnerships
  • Share experiences in a supportive environment

Interested? Click the button below to reserve your spot!

Tickets are just $25 and all female anglers are welcome. You don't have to be a My Fishing Cape Cod member to attend.

Meetup Itinerary

8:30am-9:00am - Doors will open at 8am and the first 30 minutes will be for networking. We'll have complimentary coffee and pastries.

9:00am-9:30am - Everyone will introduce themselves by telling us the town they live in, what type of fishing they most like to do, and their favorite lure. Jane Simpson will share information about "Girls Cast & Catch Day".

9:30am-10:15am - Amy Wrightson of Sports Port will speak about spin casting on Cape Cod for various species, from boat and from shore.

10:15am-11:00am - Kara Hayhurst of Cape Cod Trout Unlimited will speak about fly fishing on Cape Cod and preparing for the upcoming season.

11:00am - The meetup officially ends, but everyone is welcome to continue chatting over at the bar which Fishermen's View is opening early for us. The kitchen will open at 11:30am if you'd like to order food at your own expense.

Special Guests

Amy Wrightson will be our first speaker at our women's meetup. Amy owns the iconic Sports Port Bait & Tackle in Hyannis, preserving its 70-year legacy. She also has a seasonal location on Main St. in Osterville. Having grown up fishing on the Cape, Amy is a wealth of local knowledge and is a regular contributor to the My Fishing Cape Cod Podcast.

Kara Hayhurst of Cape Cod Trout Unlimited will be our second speaker at the women's meetup. As a working mother of two children, fly fishing became Kara's passion due to its meditative qualities. Kara enjoys both freshwater and saltwater fly fishing. After years of being one of the only women at many fly fishing events, Kara is now dedicated to helping other women get involved in the sport!

Gretchen Stiers inspired me to make this meetup happen, and she'll be working the registration table as you enter the meetup. Gretchen has been a member of My Fishing Cape Cod since 2018. She's active inside our forum and has attended many of our group fishing trips! In addition to being a MFCC member, Gretchen is also the Vice President of the Cape Cod Salties.

Jane Simpson will be sharing information about "Girls Cast and Catch Day"- a fun event planned for later this summer. Jane has been a member of My Fishing Cape Cod for 13 years. She fishes from beaches and boats, and even joined us on a fishing trip to Costa Rica!

I'm fortunate to have grown up on the beach, and I've been fishing since kindergarten. I have great family, friends and fishing experiences to be thankful for. Just being out there is enough-catching fish is just a bonus!
