Sneak Peek of the MFCC Fly Fishing Forum

by Ryan Collins

For dedicated striped bass fly anglers seeking expertise and community, the My Fishing Cape Cod (MFCC) online forum stands out as an invaluable resource.

Our private members-only platform offers extensive knowledge sharing, fishing reports, and friendly guidance specifically tailored to striped bass fly fishing in Cape Cod waters.

After speaking recently with members of My Fishing Cape Cod, I realized that some fly anglers here on the site were not even aware that the fly fishing section of our forum event existed!

With that in mind, I figured I absolutely needed to make this post which clearly shows how to take advantage of this valuable resource.

Video Tour the Fly Fishing Forum

To provide prospective members, as well as current members who might not be aware of the fly fishing forum, I created the following video which provides a comprehensive overview.

This walkthrough video will show you the forum's interface and capabilities, while demonstrating how members can effectively navigate our extensive collection of fly fishing content, with a particular focus on our striper-related discussions and resources.

Click play below to check it out! 👇

The video showcases several key features, including...

  • our intuitive search functionality that allows members to quickly locate specific topics such as "fly fishing Monomoy" or "fly fishing flats"
  • how to access our popular fly tying threads, where members share their latest patterns and creations
  • the forum's community interaction features, including how members can post questions and receive detailed responses from myself and other members

While activity naturally peaks during the prime striper season from May through October, the video illustrates how our forum maintains valuable engagement throughout the year, with winter months focusing on fly tying, gear preparation, and strategy discussions for the upcoming season.

A Decade of Striped Bass Fly Fishing Intelligence

Johan Frenje always seems to be catching quality bass on the fly! This fish was taken in July of 2023. You can view his post to read more.

The forum houses over ten years of accumulated wisdom from striper fly anglers. Members regularly report to me that accessing this comprehensive database of fishing knowledge has significantly accelerated their learning curve, often saving them five to ten years of trial and error on the water.

Active Fly Fishing Discussions and Resources

The forum's dedicated fly fishing section features several key components that benefit striper enthusiasts:

Seasonal Fly Tying Insights

A highlight of the community is the fly tying thread, currently "Fly Fishing and Fly Tying 2025," where members showcase their latest patterns for stripers and other species. This collaborative environment allows anglers to share successful designs proven to work on stripers, albies and other species.

Pictured above is a clouser creation shared to the forum by MFCC member Ken Holt. For this clouser, Ken used a grizzle hack as a thread with sulky thread added to the head to add some sparkle. You can learn more about our members' clouser creations by visiting the Clouser pattern question thread.

I can't express how much I appreciate you guys posting about and sharing your flies! You guys are a talented bunch to say the least!

Location-Specific Intel

The forum's robust search functionality enables members to access detailed information about prime striper fishing locations. Whether seeking insights about Monomoy's legendary flats and rips, or Old Sandwich Harbor's productive waters, anglers can quickly find relevant posts and updates about striped bass movements and behavior.

Year-Round Engagement

While peak activity occurs during the prime striper season (May through October), the forum maintains steady engagement throughout the year. The winter months see continued discussions about fly tying, gear preparation, and strategy planning for the upcoming striped bass season.

Interactive Learning Environment

Beyond its extensive knowledge base, the forum facilitates direct interaction between members through:

  • Private messaging capabilities for one-on-one communication
  • Member following features to track specific anglers' posts
  • Quick response times to specific questions about striper fishing techniques and more
  • Friendly, supportive community focused on helping fellow fly anglers succeed

Beyond Cape Cod

While the forum primarily focuses on Cape Cod's striped bass fishery, members also share valuable fly fishing experiences from other regions, providing broader perspectives and techniques that can be adapted for striper fishing.

For example, check out this extensive multi-thousand word post from member Johan Frenje about his recent fly fishing expedition to the tributaries of Lake Ontario in search of monster brown trout.

Thank you Johan for contributing this epic piece!

Joining the Community

For fly anglers serious about improving their striped bass success, membership in the My Fishing Cape Cod forum provides access to a huge knowledge base and supportive community. The platform's combination of historical data, more recent reports, and friendly guidance makes it a super helpful resource for both newcomers and experienced striper fly anglers.

Our member-supported environment has created what I consider to be one of the internet's friendliest and most valuable resources for striped bass fly fishing information. In my view, the many contributors over the years have turned the MFCC forum into a premier destination for dedicated fly anglers who want to target stripers in the Cape Cod region.

Are you ready to elevate your Cape Cod striper fly fishing game? Consider joining the My Fishing Cape Cod community and tap into over a decade of specialized knowledge and insights from our supportive community of striped bass fly anglers.
