The waters surrounding Cape Cod are experiencing a transformation as we move deeper into August, with multiple species arriving in force and providing anglers with some of the most diverse fishing opportunities of the season. This report from Evan Eastman of Eastman's Sport & Tackle covers the highly anticipated arrival of bonito, bluefin tuna action south of Martha's Vineyard, and a false albacore forecast.
Bonito: Arriving in Numbers
After weeks of anticipation with bonito being occasionally spotted, these funny fish have finally made their presence fully known in Cape Cod waters. Their arrival in numbers, often mixed with schools of hungry bluefish, mark what many consider the unofficial start to "funny fish" season. These hard-fighting pelagic fish are being found consistently from Green Pond to Waquoit Bay, with daily reports showing increasing numbers throughout the week.
In this report Evan goes into great detail about:
- Productive bonito locations from both boat and shore
- Successful bonito lures and trolling tactics
