The waters surrounding Cape Cod are heating up as we approach the July 4th holiday weekend, and MFCC Member Bruno Demir has been fishing hard both inshore and offshore. Bruno's fresh reports have information regarding tuna, fluke, striped bass, bluefish, and bonito.
Canyon Adventure: Big Fish in Deep Water
Bruno's recent overnight expedition to the West Atlantis Canyon showcases the incredible offshore fishing opportunities available to Cape Cod anglers. Departing at midnight on Sunday and returning Monday evening, his team targeted the reported concentration of big eye and yellowfin tuna that had been gathering in the area.
The canyon delivered on its promise, with massive big eye tuna in the 150-200 pound range prowling the depths alongside quality yellowfin. However, nature threw a curveball in the form of dangerous lightning storms that sat over the canyon for much of the night, keeping most of the fishing fleet at bay. Despite the challenging conditions, including heavy fog on the return trip, Bruno's team managed to bring home plenty of meat for the freezer.
For those considering their first canyons trip, Bruno describes the experience as "blasting through into another dimension". The fishing represents the pinnacle of offshore angling in the region, offering encounters with some of the ocean's most powerful fish in their natural deep-water habitat.
