“Slob Bass” on Danny Plugs | June 14 Video Report

In the wee hours of Tuesday morning June 14th, while fishing a beach on Cape Cod, I happened upon a school of "slob" striped bass willing to crush big Danny Plugs on the surface in the pitch black.

If you have never caught a giant striped bass using a Danny Plug at night, then you will be in for a treat when it finally happens for you. The bites are thunderous!

I had the cameras rolling and captured the best part of the trip on video. The best two fish during this trip were 43 and 44 inches.

The yellow/white Danny Plug from Gibbs Lures has treated me well over the years.

In the video I include as many tips and words of advice for fishing Danny plugs as I could think of. So if you're interested in trying this type of fishing, then hopefully watching this video will be beneficial for you.

In the yellow box beneath the video My Fishing Cape Cod members can download even more information about about how I like to fish Danny plugs, where I like to fish Danny plugs, and the gear and equipment I typically use.

I'm fortunate to have grown up on the beach, and I've been fishing since kindergarten. I have great family, friends and fishing experiences to be thankful for. Just being out there is enough-catching fish is just a bonus!

  • Ryan – you are the master!!! I never get tired watching these videos. Te release was the best part – just so cool!! Congrats! Mike

  • Well done Ryan! Can this size of fish be expected in mid-June from shore? (I might have to coma a bit later next time!).

    • Definitely Patrick!

There are always big fish roaming in tight to the beach somewhere in the Cape Cod area May thru October.

The trick of course is being on the right beach at the right time.

  • Thanks for the great report, the video, and the instruction on fishing the danny. I’ve had one for two years but have yet to catch anything on it. Next time I’ll be better informed about where, when and how to use it.
