In this session of the My Fishing Cape Cod Podcast I interview Captain Dave Carraro of the FV-Tuna.com. Dave is also one of the leading captains of National Geographic’s hit TV show Wicked Tuna.
Dave also runs charters out of Gloucester aboard his boat the FV-Tuna.com.
In 2011 Dave landed 52 giant tuna including 8 giants over 1,000 pounds. So needless to say Dave knows a thing or two about tuna fishing!
More specifically, in this podcast you’ll find out about:
- Dave’s new “battle wagon” boat that will soon replace the FV-Tuna.com, and the reasons behind the upgrade
- The incredible story behind Dave, and first mate Sandro’s, 1200 pound monster giant bluefin tuna
- How Dave got started fishing for giant tuna and the reason why he decided to pursue fishing full time
- How Dave narrowly avoided sinking at night in terrible weather while rounding Monomoy
- What’s going through Dave’s mind the instant they hook up with a giant bluefin
- How Dave works to minimize popped hooks, and why you need to be OK with this natural part of the tuna game
- The theory behind how Dave chooses where to fish and how you can narrow down productive tuna fishing locations
- How you can make the most of your tuna fishing expeditions, especially if you’re a “weekend warrior”
- Plus a whole lot more!
At the end of the podcast I will also answer select questions from the MFCC YouTube Channel, Twitter Feed and Facebook page.
Special thanks to my cousin Kevin Collins for producing this podcast!
Ryan, Another great podcast/interview. I am a big fan of Wicked and Dave is my favorite. I think he is the best and most knowledgeable fisherman on the show. I like the way he maintains his boat and equipment…
Thanks! Like you said he’s definitely one of the best tuna fishermen out there.
Personally I was amazed at how easy going Dave is. Made for a great conversation!
Hi Ryan! Mike Boudreau here. I totally enjoyed the pod cast, but; I found it very superficial. I would have liked more in- depth info: like what size and type hooks used for which bait. Do you ‘ bridle’? what length and pound test leaders. Flouro or mono. Get my drift? I love your site but I am in need of and would appreciate more details. Not spots, I understand this ; but methods and details. I hope to hear from you soon. I am retireing this spring and am moving to the cape. I will tell all. Thank you , Mike.
Hey Mike! Thank you for the feedback I always appreciate it.
My friend Jason I can certainly help you get rigged up if you’d like. Feel free to send me an email about what you need.
Congrats on the retirement!
