Meet Captain Phil Howarth: Setting the Foundation for the February Tuna Zoominar Series

by Ryan Collins

Every successful tuna angler started somewhere. They learned the fundamentals, built solid techniques, and only then moved into advanced strategies.

That's exactly how we've structured the February Tuna Zoominar series—and Captain Phil Howarth will be laying the foundation.

The Voice of Cape Cod's Largest Tackle Shop

As the driving force behind the Goose Hummock Shop in Orleans—Cape Cod's premier fishing outfitter since 1946—Phil has his finger on the pulse of what's working across the entire region.

Phil stays connected to everything happening from Stellwagen to the canyons. That network and breadth of knowledge makes him uniquely qualified to teach the fundamentals that apply everywhere.

Why Phil Will Open the Series

On Wednesday, February 4th at 7pm, Phil will kick off the series with his "Introduction to Tuna Fishing"—covering the essentials every angler needs before tackling advanced techniques.

You'll learn:

  • Reading conditions to find fish
  • Effective trolling spreads that produce, setups and equipment for live bait fishing, casting and vertical jigging
  • The fundamentals that work whether you're targeting school fish or giants
  • How to adapt your approach across different fisheries
  • Setting yourself up for success from Stellwagen to south of the Islands
Phil's bringing his experience across multiple tuna fisheries to give you a comprehensive understanding of what works and why.

Building Toward Advanced Tactics

Phil's session sets you up perfectly for what follows in February:

  • Captain Cullen Lundholm breaks down his strategy for Stellwagen to east of Chatham
  • Captain Willy Hatch covers advanced tactics for south of the islands
  • Captain Tyler Mcallister explains bluefin biology and how understanding what drives their behavior will make you a more successful angler.

Each captain builds on what you learned in the previous sessions—but it all starts with Phil establishing the foundation.

The Interactive Format Makes the Difference

Two full hours. Live Q&A. Direct access to Phil's knowledge. Plus structured networking time to connect with serious tuna anglers in your area.

Got questions about setting up your spread? Ask. Curious about tackle selection for different scenarios? He'll walk you through it. Want to understand why certain presentations outperform others? Phil can explain it.

All four sessions will be recorded, so you can review Phil's fundamentals even if you aren't able to attend the live session.

Ryan

P.S. Phil's been teaching Cape Cod anglers for decades through the Goose. Now he's bringing that same comprehensive knowledge to this Zoominar series. Whether you're brand new to tuna fishing or looking to refine your fundamentals, this is February will be an excellent educational opportunity.
