The late season Nor'easter may have kept all but a few of the hardiest anglers inside, but the My Fishing Cape Cod forum was (and still is) chock full of reports of the 2025 fishing season moving into nearly full swing.
Making Memories on the Water
Many of us can remember our first fishing trips with our father, mother, aunt, uncle, or whomever introduced us to our sport. Fond memories of dunking worms in a tournament in a local pond, fishing from a small rowboat, or out on your first charter are priceless.
The image in the Middle Ground - MV thread of Chris G and his son doubled up is priceless. Fishing alongside your children is a great way to make memories that last a lifetime. Be sure to check out that thread to see the smile of a youngster holding a striper nearly his size.

Environmental Stewardship Initiative
MFCC members have a great reputation of taking care of the environment and 11th grader Cooper Mark has a wonderful idea in the Coastal Cleanup Initiative thread. Cooper is asking that we pick up five pieces of trash every time we hit the beach between now and June 5 and if you can to share a picture of your efforts to be included in his final presentation. What a great idea from one of our future leaders!
Boat Fishing Update
Reports from some of the boating threads show a sea bass season just getting started, flounder doing really well, and hit or miss striper action. In the Southside/Vineyard Sound thread Chip Richardson ran into a few nice sized fish after the Nor'Easter blew through.

Buzzards Bay Action
The Buzzards Bay 2025 thread includes reports of some solid sea bass, and a great striper bite, including a well over slot bass that longtime MFCC member Anthony Besaw caught on a chartreuse and white spook he personally made. Solid reports from Buzzards Bay show growing numbers of migrating bass are making their way into our waters in solid numbers and a few reports of gator blues are hopefully setting us up for a great season.

Surf Fishing Tips and Techniques
The MFCC Surfcasters Thread 2025 always has a ton of helpful information. With reports of large quantities of squid in the bay, some anglers are finding success with lighter colored plugs - even at night when darker colors, particularly blurple, are often the choice. And some of the reports indicate a painfully slow retrieve to be the way to go early season.
Reading Ian from Goose Hummock's success in the surf caused this angler to stop by the Goose to say hello. Ian offered one bit of last advice for this time of the year: if you aren't getting hits, quickly move on to another spot — that was just the advice me and my son-in-law needed Sunday evening as our second Outer Cape bayside spot resulted in success, also on a lighter colored plugs.
Women Anglers Community
The Women Anglers Talk Fishing thread is a direct result of the First Annual MFCC Women's Meet-Up held on May 10. This thread is a great way for women to connect, perhaps find a new fishing friend, and to keep the enthusiasm from the meet-up going. A Second Annual Women's Meet Up is already being planned for 2026. Women anglers - please let MFCC member Gretchen Stiers or Ryan know what other activities you would like to participate in.

Community Marketplace
The Sell & Swap thread is a great place to find deals on everything from rods and reels to bait and boats. In addition to selling gear, Stephen O'Donnell and Jeff Richard donated gear to get youngster and a new college graduate started surf fishing. The generosity of MFCC members to not only share their knowledge but also gear to get more people our fishing is amazing!
Until next time, tight lines!
