September Scup (Porgy) Fishing in Vineyard Sound

by Ryan Collins

At 1pm on September 10th I joined a group of veterans from My Fishing Cape Cod for an afternoon of bottom fishing in Vineyard Sound.

This trip was sponsored by Wet Vet which is an organization lead by Brian McCutcheon (pictured below).

Thank you Brian and Wet Vet for making this happen!

It was a beautiful day as we departed Falmouth Harbor aboard the Minuteman, one of the Patriot Party Boat's vessels.

With a light summertime wind blowing out of the southwest, the waters of Vineyard Sound were nice and calm as we cruised past Nobska Light.

For this trip we had captain Jim Tiejte guiding us to the action.

Patriot Party Boats is a 40-year-old, second-generation, family-owned and -operated business, and is run by Jim.

Leading up to this trip I had sent out an email inquiring about how many veterans we had here on My Fishing Cape Cod. Over 300 people replied saying they had served! From that list I randomly drew names to go on this trip.

On the way out I had a fun time chatting it up with some of the veterans who had won a spot onboard the trip.

If you're a fan or member of MFCC and you are a veteran who did not reply to that email, then please reach out to me and I will add you to my list so you don't miss out on your chance to hop onboard the next veteran trip.

I'm fortunate to have grown up on the beach, and I've been fishing since kindergarten. I have great family, friends and fishing experiences to be thankful for. Just being out there is enough-catching fish is just a bonus!

  • Thank you for honoring our Veterans and thank you for those who have served. I see my buddy Al on this trip! Looks like you all had a wonderful time!

  • Great of you to recognize the vets Ryan. As a non-boat owner I enjoy a few trips each year on Patriot Party Boats for BSB and Porgies. They offer economical 4 hr trips. Agree that Porgies are delicious. Also they’re perhaps the lowest in mercury content than most of the other species we target. Something to consider for those of us who enjoy seafood several times a week.

  • It looks like all went well on this trip Ryan . A thank you goes out to the capt and boat for taking the veterans out in the sound for a good day of fishing. Peace and Prayers
