Nighttime Peanut Bunker Bass Blitz

Ryan Collins

This past Tuesday night I donned my bathing suit and hit the beach at 11pm in search of stripers.

The moon was nearly full, and it was shining brightly through the foggy mist and clouds. The wind was dead calm.

I quietly walked down the beach, making sure not to disturb anyone who may be sleeping in the nearby houses. After a 20 minute walk I arrived at the spot, hopeful that some fish would be home.

Amazing Underwater Footage Of Striped Bass In Their Natural Habitat

Ryan Collins

The sun was shining this past Wednesday when I donned my wet suit and entered the ocean for my first snorkeling session of the summer.

I still love snorkeling our local Cape Cod waters, despite the high numbers of full grown adult great white sharks in the area.

When snorkeling you never know what you may encounter, and this past Wedneday's snorkeling trip was no exception!

Weekly Podcast Host

Hello and welcome to another edition of the weekly My Fishing Cape Cod Podcast.

Each week throughout the fishing season, we check-in with our local experts from the Goose Hummock Shops, Canal Bait & Tackle, and Eastman's Sport & Tackle.

This week Sam Brown from the Goose is down at ICAST in Florida, and Evan from Eastman's Sport & Tackle was also unavailable to take my call.

So to make up for that, in this week's show we will dive a bit deeper with Ryan of MFCC and Jeff of Canal Bait and discuss in detail what they are seeing and hearing this week on Cape.

Cape Cod Surfcasting Report | Monday July 1

Ryan Collins

Saturday night myself and 3 members of My Fishing Cape Cod encountered consistent action with stripers on almost every cast!

I also thought we would eventually find some "keeper size" striped bass, however getting into big fish from shore is never a sure bet.

Regardless we still had a ton of fun! The thunderstorms didn't bother us, and we were treated to a gorgeous night of surfcasting in this general area of Cape Cod.

Catching Striped Bass With The New “Dart Spin”

Ryan Collins

Stripers can be caught using the same lures that your grandfather used. However, I think it can be fun to experiment with new stuff!

So far this spring, quite a few members here on MFCC have been using the new "dart spin" lure with success.

The dart spin is an ultra-durable soft plastic lure. I have been told it can even withstand the sharp teeth of small bluefish!

“Pre-Fishing” The 2019 Cheeky Schoolie Tournament

Ryan Collins

This Saturday May 18 marks the 8th annual Cheeky Schoolie Tournament. The Cheeky Tournament is held on Cape Cod, and it's the largest fly fishing tournament in the world!

I will be fly fishing Cheeky with my buddy and MFCC member Doug Blanchard. This will be our third year in a row fishing the Cheeky Tournament.

Doug and I caught fish during the 2017 and 2018 Cheeky Tournaments, but they were too small to get us on the leaderboard.

That's why this year I decided to devote some time to "pre-fishing" in an effort to find some bigger fish!

Fishing on Mother’s Day?

cape cod striped bass fishing

John D. Silva

The arrival of Mother’s Day each year brings about a challenging set of circumstances for the devoted outdoorsman.

Mother’s Day traditionally falls on the second Sunday in May, an otherwise valuable, carefree day of outdoor recreation.

With hungry, all-to-willing trout rising in the streams, actively feeding largemouth & smallmouth bass fattening up for the coming spawn, and striped bass and bluefish making their annual, frenzied run up the coastline, the month of May is a coming-out party of sorts for winter-weary anglers.

But just as we slowly begin to shake out the cobwebs from another long winter’s slumber, WHAM!! Obligation jumps up and whacks us in the back of the head with a two-by-four, stopping us cold in our muddy tracks. This is when beleaguered, outdoor-loving fathers and sons suddenly find themselves in one hell of a dilemma.
