Labor Day Weekend Surfcasters Report with Ian McPartland of the Goose Hummock

by Kevin Collins

Striped Bass, Bluefish, Funny Fish and More!

September has arrived on Cape Cod, and with it comes one of the most exciting transitions of the fishing season. The dog days of summer are over, the mornings are getting cooler, bait is moving, and anglers are starting to look ahead to the fall run. For many Cape Cod fishermen, September is one of the most anticipated months of the year, especially for those hoping to intercept striped bass, bluefish, bonito and false albacore from the beach.

Ian McPartland from The Goose Hummock Shop in Orleans, Massachusetts provides his unique perspective on the current fishing situation inside Cape Cod Bay and along the southside facing beaches. Ian has been spending time fishing from shore, launching his kayak, scouting the south side and even sneaking in some excellent freshwater bass fishing on Cape Cod's kettle ponds.

In this podcast, Ian goes into great detail on:

  • Striped bass from shore and the boat inside Cape Cod Bay
  • Why has the boat bite been so hot this season in the bay?
  • What are potential reasons for fish staying outside casting range from shore?
  • Surfcasting report for bluefish along the south side of Cape Cod
  • Early reports on false albacore
  • Funny fish tactics to use for bonito & false albacore in September
  • Freshwater largemouth bass report from the kettle ponds
