As Cape Cod's fall fishing season kicks into high gear, anglers are experiencing some of the most exciting opportunities of the year. Prior to today, cooler weather and overcast conditions have been providing advantages for anglers targeting funny fish. Eddy Kooyomjian, the founder of Monomoy Tackle, has compiled reports from his customers stretching from Monomoy, down the south side facing beaches of Cape Cod, and even from the islands.
Why Overcast Days Are Your Friend
Many anglers might be tempted to stay home when the skies turn gray and rainy, but seasoned Cape Cod fishermen know better. These conditions actually tip the scales in favor of anglers targeting false albacore and bonito. Funny fish, false albacore in particular, have exceptional eyesight and can be incredibly picky. The reduced light conditions from overcast skies give anglers a significant advantage in fooling these wary species. Couple decreased light conditions with surface disturbances like a steady rain, and the stage is set for a memorable fall day on the water.
In this report, Eddy goes into great detail on:
- Current conditions in the Monomoy region over the past week
- Reports from his customers off the south side of Cape Cod
- Boat reports from Nantucket Sound and Vineyard Sound
- Funny fish being targeted from shore including in the Cape Cod Canal
- The most productive Monomoy Tackle peanut resin jigs for funny fish
- The best producing Monomoy Tackle swimming plugs for fall run striped bass
- Martha's Vineyard Derby reports
