Friday October 6 Tautog Trip (and maybe some albies)

by Ryan Collins

October has arrived which means it's time to target tautog, which are perhaps the Cape's hardest fighting inshore fish!

This Friday we're offering a My Fishing Cape Cod tautog adventure with captain Tyler Putney of Flatliner Charters. This trip will last approximately 5 hours. Tautog is the primary target, but if the "fish gods" cooperate, then those onboard will also get a chance at catching some false albacore.

I'm bringing my wife to Logan Airport Friday morning so unfortunately I won't be onboard, but I know anyone who signs up will have a great time without me. Captain Tyler is terrific and tautog are fun to catch and amazing to eat.

Please click here to reserve your spot onboard. The maximum number of anglers for this trip is 5 and we'll need at least 3 people to sign up in order for the trip to sail.

Here are the details:

  • Price: $230/person
  • Max number of anglers: 5 (plus captain Tyler)
  • Trip length: 5 hours
  • Trip time: Around sunrise (exact time will be emailed to you 24hrs in advance)
  • Port of departure: Taylor's Point in Bourne or Falmouth Harbor (subject to change based on weather)
  • Area fished: Buzzard's Bay or Elizabeth Islands
  • Techniques used: anchoring over rock piles, fishing with light spinning rods and jigs tipped with green crabs
  • Gear and tackle will be provided
  • Please dress warm and wear sturdy sneakers or boots

*Please know the trip will sail in less than ideal weather conditions, but that you will not go out if the weather is unsafe. If the trip is cancelled due to weather, then you will receive a refund. Please understand that due to the logistics of organizing these trips, we are not able to offer refunds if you cancel your reservation less than one week in advance, or if you do not show up the morning of your trip.

What Members Have Been Saying About Fishing with Captain Tyler

My arms are sore from all the fish we caught!

What a morning on the water at the rips off of Monomoy. Captain Tyler did it again. Getting ready to go again in July.

It was a great trip!

First father and son trip in a few years and Captain Tyler put us on the fish. My son Sean caught is personal best at 38” and we maxed out our keepers. Tyler always makes it a memorable day, and it was fun pairing up with a couple MFCC members.

Everyone caught fish.

The fishing was crazy! It seemed every cast produced a strike!

I can’t thank you enough for putting this club together!

It’s been an amazing year of fishing! I have had an AMAZING summer of fishing and I learned SO MUCH! I can’t thank you enough for this group. It’s been wonderful to fish with captain Tyler and all of the other guides. I can’t wait for next year!

His boat and accommodations were outstanding.

Kudos to Captain Willy Hatch! Nice guy and very personable. He made the long day enjoyable and with a smile. Willy and Tyler are the type of fellows that you would want to head into a tavern and have a beer with. Both just down to earth guys. I enjoyed the trip, especially meeting with fellow MFCC members and past fishing partners. We are already planning our next fishing trips together. Well Done!

I highly recommend booking through MFCC.

Both captain Tyler and captain Willy demonstrated that they know where the fish are, and know what how to keep us busy by giving us a satisfied experience. I enjoyed meeting the MFCC members in all trips I took this year.

Many thanks for organizing the trip for us Ryan.

Tyler was an outstanding guide. We covered more water in 5 hours than I think I ever have. I loved how he was very quick to move on if a particular area wasn’t producing.

Tyler did a great job!

Tyler got us on a ton of massive albies today! It was awesome!

Went on an albie trip

My 5 trips this year were great.

Have to say how great my 5 charter trips were this year, split between Cullen and Tyler. It was my first time and we limited out and brought home two species on every outing. It was also so much fun getting to fish my own untested homemade lures.

I'm fortunate to have grown up on the beach, and I've been fishing since kindergarten. I have great family, friends and fishing experiences to be thankful for. Just being out there is enough-catching fish is just a bonus!
