In Loving Memory of a Cape Cod Legend

It is with deep respect and appreciation that we share this special recording from our 2023 My Fishing Cape Cod seminar, featuring the legendary Captain Tony Bisky. Tony left us far too soon on April 26th, 2024, but his legacy lives on in the countless anglers he guided, the friends he made, and the wisdom he so generously shared with our fishing community.

Tony's legacy lives on in the memories of everyone whose life he touched. His memorial page is filled with wonderful stories from family, lifelong friends, and the countless anglers who had the privilege of fishing with him. These tributes beautifully capture who Tony was—both on and off the water. Please visit his memorial page to read these heartfelt memories and, if Tony was part of your fishing journey, to share your own.

For many decades, Tony operated as a charter captain specializing in the waters around Monomoy—a place he knew as intimately as his own backyard. But Tony was more than just an exceptional fisherman. He was a teacher, a storyteller, and a friend to everyone who had the privilege of spending time on the water with him. Whether you were a first-time angler learning to cast or an experienced fly fisherman seeking that trophy striper, Tony had the patience, knowledge, and good humor to make your day on the water unforgettable.

Those who knew Tony remember him not just for his fishing prowess, but for his warmth, his wit, and his genuine love for sharing the magic of Monomoy with others. From his earlier days as a bartender at Brax (where he joked he couldn't remember much of the seventies—"but the seventies were fun!") to becoming one of the most respected charter captains on Cape Cod, Tony touched countless lives with his generous spirit.

This seminar, recorded in April 2023, captures Tony at his best—sharing decades of hard-won knowledge about fishing one of Cape Cod's most challenging and rewarding fisheries. His voice, his humor, and his passion for these waters shine through every minute. We're honored to preserve and share this recording so that Tony's wisdom can continue to help anglers for years to come.

To Tony's family, friends, and the many clients who became friends over the years: we hope this brings back fond memories and perhaps a smile or two. As Tony himself said about Monomoy, "It's magic out there." And so was fishing with him.

What Tony Shared With Us:

Tony took time out of his busy schedule to sit down with our community and openly share knowledge that charter captains often keep to themselves. His generosity in breaking down these techniques—insights he'd spent a lifetime developing—was a true gift to all of us. In this seminar, you'll hear Tony discuss:

Timing & Conditions

  • Why current matters more than tide (and the app Tony relied on daily to find peak fishing times)
  • Tony's favorite scenario: moon tides at daybreak and why they're "magic time"
  • The water temperature sweet spots Tony learned to read over 40 years on these waters
  • His mental calendar for seasonal timing: stripers, albies, squid runs, and herring

Techniques & Tactics Tony Perfected

  • His meticulous approach to boat positioning that kept clients catching fish
  • Tony's unconventional wisdom on albie fishing that went against common practice
  • The "always working" philosophy he developed for maximizing time with bait in the water
  • Stealth tactics for sight-fishing the flats that Tony refined over decades
  • When to let lures sink vs. fast retrieves—lessons learned through thousands of trips

The Tackle Tony Trusted

  • His honest take on go-to lures: Albie Snacks and Zara Spooks (and the safety modifications he made)
  • Complete fly fishing setup Tony recommended after guiding countless fly anglers
  • Why Tony insisted on braided line and the leader strength that kept his clients connected
  • His emphatic advice about crab flies: "If you want to catch consistently, you need a crab"

Tony's Location-Specific Knowledge

  • What made Point Rip so productive in his experience
  • The structure and depth ranges where Tony consistently found fish
  • His guidance on wade fishing access and what to expect
  • Understanding the dramatic temperature changes Tony witnessed daily at Monomoy

Safety Lessons from a 40-Year Veteran

  • Tony's practical advice for smaller boats (he genuinely cared about angler safety)
  • His non-negotiable rule: "No fish is worth getting killed for"
  • The wisdom he'd share about navigating challenging waters

Insights Only Experience Can Teach

  • What Tony observed stripers actually eating on the Monomoy flats after opening fish's stomachs
  • His honest perspective on threats to the fishery he loved
  • Real talk about seal pressure and its impact
  • How to read conditions and adapt—something Tony mastered over four decades

Throughout this seminar, you'll hear Tony's humor, his passion for Monomoy ("God's country," as he called it), and his genuine desire to help other anglers succeed. This was a master sharing his craft with people who appreciate these waters as much as he did.
