The 10 Forum Threads That Dominated 2025 (And What They Tell Us)

by Dan Nahorney

The forum is one of the most valuable places on MFCC. It's a place where you and your fellow members share the latest intel.

It not only provides up-to-the-minute detailed information on where the fish are, what they are biting, and how to catch them, but it's also a valued repository of invaluable intel for anglers seeking to plan trips in the coming year.

So with that in mind, today we're sharing 10 of the most valuable threads from 2025. Reviewing these threads now can be a great way to effectively plan for the upcoming season.

#1: The MFCC Surfcasters' Thread

So, what threads attracted the most views in 2025? The MFCC Surfcasters' Thread, which is so large it gets split into three separate threads—Spring, Summer, and Fall, is by far the most read.

The thread has something for all surf anglers. This time of year, you can live vicariously through MFCC anglers like Robbie Sturtevant and Jeffrey Cotto who seemingly chase stripers year-round.

Robbie Sturtevant chases stripers 12 months per year. Here he is pictured with a solid holdover caught on one of his favorite lures, a bone redfin.

In the spring, reports of the first migratory fish chasing herring get the thread moving, as MFCC anglers seeking to shake the dust off their gear hit the water. In May, activity in the forum really picks up, as more anglers find the time to chase stripers.

On a memorable May outing, Noah Ezickson caught this big striper. Noah was treated to a great sunset, and 30 pound stripers bumping at his feet in the surf.

For 2025, late May into June provided some of the best results for MFCC surf anglers, with the heat of the summer being a bit frustrating for most. An epic 10-day bite beginning September 1, as reported by the lead singer of the "Beach Boys," Mike Marcus, detailed some of the best consistent, shore-based fishing in our waters in quite some time.

Mike Marcus, Mike Remlinger, and Jim Kelly are a part of the "Beach Boys" who were treated to an epic 10-day bite that saw the group catch more than a dozen trophy-sized stripers, with a few bluefish mixed in as well.

The Surfcasters' Thread not only includes the latest intel, but it also includes in-depth discussions on everything from gear to tactics and everything in between. Reviewing the Surfcasters' threads from the past couple of years can provide you with a masterclass on when you may be most likely to catch fish, which lures to use, and what gear to bring along with you.

#2: Bluefin Tuna 2025

Given the incredible tuna bite, it may not come as a surprise that the Bluefin Tuna 2025 thread took the honors as the second most read.

Matt Malloy is all smiles after landing this solid tuna on a skirted ballyhoo this summer.

While the tuna season in our waters starts in June, the Bluefin Tuna thread rarely quiets down. In 2025 the first post was in April, and the 2026 thread has already been started!

Tuna anglers find the thread helpful, freely sharing information about when the tuna first arrive and the general location of the fish. Data about what techniques are working—including depth and water temperature—can help anglers track down these fast-moving fish that can move miles in a short time. Bluefin have been clocked at speeds over 40 miles per hour.

Patrick Yankovich had a great day in August fishing south of the lanes. Patrick hung out with the whales and filled the bag in a few hours, going five for seven with tuna and landing some decent mahi-mahi as well.

While the 2025 recreational bluefin season was too quick, shutting down just as anglers were ramping up,  it did attract a growing number of boats chasing these prized game fish. In 2025, bluefin were first reported in the canyons, then moving closer to our waters, south of Martha's Vineyard and south of Block Island by late June into early July.

#3: Cape Cod Bay 2025

Coming in third place, the Cape Cod Bay 2025 thread provided tons of useful information. In 2025, posts in this thread started in May, as reports of the first migratory striped bass scattered across the bay began to come in.

Doug Jardine had a memorable day in the bay with Tyler Putney from Flatline Charters, landing this and several other big stripers.

Early season in the Bay worked well for boaters chasing stripers, with encouraging reports from as far north as Provincetown helping anglers to locate the fish. As is common, summer months, leading to warmer water, resulted in stripers being difficult to find, and when anglers found them, they were often unreceptive to their offerings.

While many anglers chase stripers primarily, here Graham Stephens shows that the bay is also home to cod. Graham successfully used the Monomoy Tackle grub teaser rigs with a metal jig to catch cod this fall.

#4: Sell and Swap Thread

Coming in fourth place for most views is the Sell and Swap Thread. This virtual online tag sale has everything from quality surf casting gear to center console boats for sale.

The activity in this thread is year-round, although springtime can see higher activity, as your fellow MFCC members look to clear out gear that might have been lightly used during the past calendar year.

The Sell and Swap thread has also seen some heartwarming posts of anglers paying it forward and providing free surf gear for a youngster or someone not fortunate enough to afford their own gear.

#5: Buzzards Bay 2025

The Buzzards Bay 2025 thread rounds out the top five. This thread gets going early, as anglers eager to get their boats in the water begin posting in March.

James Durso caught these tautog during an April Buzzards Bay trip. James was treated to a nice day on the water with calm seas and water temperatures in low 50’s.

Posters provide helpful information, with everything from water temperature to locations of where the bait is.

During an October trip in Buzzards Bay, Terry Dayian landed this solid striper on a chilly day.

#6: Monomoy Fishing 2025

Not surprisingly, the Monomoy Fishing 2025 thread came in as the sixth most read thread. This amazing fishery, which many say is the best striped bass location on the east coast, attracted a growing number of boats in 2025.

Micah "The Fish Monster" Goyner landed this solid striper on an early season trip to Monomoy. Micah's father, Chris, is a frequent poster on MFCC, and the two chase everything from stripers to bluefin tuna.

Given the decreasing size of the striper biomass, more anglers than ever pointed their bow toward this diverse fishery. While the named rips and shoals of Monomoy can be found on a map, the invaluable information provided by posters to the Monomoy thread can make the difference between fishing and catching.

During a foggy July outing to Monomoy, John Manteiga landed this solid striper .

Anglers such as Eddie Kooyomjian Jr. provide detailed posts about successful tips and techniques throughout the season. Eddie is also one of the boaters who not only chases stripers, but also fishes the areas in and around Monomoy for black sea bass, tautog, bluefish, fluke, and bonito.

#7: Cape Cod Canal 2025

The Cape Cod Canal 2025 thread fills the seventh spot, as anglers fishing the big ditch provided helpful information throughout the season. Reports in this thread often detail the first of the migratory stripers moving into our waters, as well as valuable intel about the baitfish they are chasing.

Mark Bonvouloir posted the first picture of a fish in the Cape Cod Canal 2025 thread. Mark caught this striper during a mid-May trip to the Canal.

The thread is also a great place to learn the successful times and techniques necessary for success in this unique fishery.

The canal is home to a variety of species including this black sea bass that Johan Frenje caught during a late season trip. This 17" personal best for Johan was safely released.

#8: Albie Fishing 2025

The first posts in the Albie Fishing 2025 thread inject enthusiasm into the entire forum (eighth most read), as these prized fish create excitement with their arrival in our waters.

Chip Richardson caught this albie during a sunny, September outing.

In 2025, the thread started in August with the first catch of these speed demons.

Allen Seiple caught this big albie on a pink diving Yozuri during an August outing.

#9: Fly Fishing and Fly Tying 2025

Coming in as the ninth most read, the Fly Fishing and Fly Tying 2025 thread provided readers a variety of information, from where to catch, to flies that are working, to how to tie.

During a June trip to Monomoy, Johan Frenje landed this 35”striper on the 8” squid pattern.

This thread has a wealth of how-to information, including how to tie flies, where to get supplies, and where to learn more from experts who may be coming to our area or who are teaching classes electronically. Fly enthusiasts Johan Frenje and Ken Holt are two of the most frequent posters, and they willingly provide advice for other MFCC fly anglers.

Ken Holt is an avid fly angler, and he certainly knows how to tie as well!

#10: Freshwater Bass 2025

Rounding out the top 10 is the Freshwater Bass (2025) thread. While the Cape is commonly associated with salt water fishing, our fresh water ponds provide anglers with plenty of action, from bass to pickerel and trout.

Anthony Besaw caught this big smallmouth bass during a March outing with Nicholas Caparell.

Getting started in March, this thread is active throughout the season, with images of good-sized bass being caught in our waters. 2025 included a solid pre-spawn bite as detailed by a number of posters who consistently caught largemouth bass hungry for their next meal.

Mike Marcus caught this four pound largemouth on a red laminate senko during an April outing.

Looking Ahead to 2026

This article focused on the top 10 most read threads in 2025, but there are dozens of other threads in the Forum that may be of interest to you. While the winter cold keeps most anglers off the water, now is a great time to mine the forum threads of most interest to you from the past couple of years.

There you can find everything from information about best times to catch fish, to lure/bait selection, proper presentation, and gear recommendations. Planning now for a more successful 2026 can provide dividends for you into the future.

Also, consider posting, or posting more frequently to the Forum in 2026. The more each of us shares, the better each thread gets, and the more successful collectively we will be.

Posts can include everything from successful and unsuccessful outings to new lures tried, gear recommendations, and pictures of fish caught. And feel free to post questions to the forum—your fellow MFCC members are more than willing to provide their knowledge.

Here's to a great 2025 and a more successful 2026 season for all! Catch 'em up!

Tight lines!
