Host

Hello and welcome to another edition of the My Fishing Cape Cod Podcast, here on myfishingcapecod.com.

The weather has improved and today (Friday) is sunny with bluebird conditions as I look out the window while recording this podcast.

Without further ado, lets welcome in our guests for today's show.

Ryan Collins

MFCC Founder

We kick off this episode with a call to MFCC founder Ryan Collins. Ryan recently filmed an ultra-light tackle striper fishing episode on a remote beach here on Cape with MFCC member Anthony Besaw. Later in the week he filmed another episode with his high school friend Garet Suomala, about trolling live mackerel on leadcore line.

Evan Eastman

Eastman's Sport & Tackle

Next up is Evan Eastman of Eastman's Sport & Tackle in Falmouth, MA. Evan's been having success at Middle Ground, and the fluke bite has been heating up. The night bite for stripers along the Falmouth coastline has been decent, and some really nice bluefish are being caught from shore along the southside of Mashpee. Black sea bass fishing continues to be good. Evan also provides a full update for fishing around Martha's Vineyard, including a random bonito, and the first bluefin tuna of the season!

Jeff Miller

Canal Bait & Tackle

Next up is our good friend Jeff Miller of Canal Bait & Tackle. Jeff reports slower action this week in the canal (at least compared to the week before). Boat anglers have been having no trouble catching mackerel, and then using them throughout Cape Cod Bay and Provincetown on schoolies and some very large bass. From the canal this weekend Jeff recommends starting with Magic Swimmers, and then switching to jigs if necessary. Fluke are being caught in Buzzard's Bay, as well as black sea bass.

Sam Brown

The Goose Hummock

Last up on this week's edition of the podcast is Sam Brown of the Goose Hummock Shops in Orleans and Dennis. Sam reports decent fishing but it's been a bit hit and miss in Cape Cod Bay and along the back beaches of Cape Cod. There have been some good schools of small fish running along the Outer Cape beaches, and larger fish in the Bay, but it hasn't been lights out. Nantucket Sound has lots of bait (squid/pogies) and there's bass around, but Sam hasn't heard of any big 30lb class fish in the Sound yet. The rips of Monomoy are hit and miss, and captain Phil of the Goose has already caught a yellowfin and bluefin tuna at the canyons!

  • Hooked a monster Bluefun last Sunday on NW corner of the dump. almost spooled my 130 in 5 mins. got 300 yards back and at the 35 minute mark lost the fish. Was a beast and had 500-600 yards of line out before we broke it off. Early season monsters are here.

    • Good to know there are some big ones mixed in with all the schools of footballs around the area. Glad to hear you are on the right track! It’s only a matter of time before there is meat on your deck!

  • Best report of the season. You hit every shore of the salt. Next time a bit of fresh water might be nice.

    • Bill,

That’s great feedback to hear. We try our best to cater to what folks would like to hear and try to provide the best intelligence possible for a variety of areas. Thanks for the kind words, a lot of hard work goes into these podcasts. I will make sure to hit on fresh water a bit in the coming weeks. Any specific areas of interest when it comes to the ponds?
      Thanks!
