Cape Cod Bay Shore Fishing Report

by Ryan Collins

It was noticeably chillier this past Saturday night when myself and MFCC members Charlie Lewis and Kenzie Floyd hit the beach for some surfcasting.

With the new moon and plenty of cloud cover I knew it was going to be a very dark evening. Cape Cod Bay was flat calm with just a breath of wind coming from the west.

For this trip we would be fishing along the beach shown in the map below.

Charlie and Kenzie have contributed quite a bit to My Fishing Cape Cod over the years including helping to create this tv show episode about lobstering.

There's a chance you might also recognize them from some of the blog posts they've contributed here on the site. 👇

Throughout it all we've become good fishing friends and I was hopeful I could help get Charlie and Kenzie onto some stripers, especially since it was Charlie's 28th birthday!

About 25 minutes into fishing I got a good bite on a blurple Swarter. I set the hook and landed a healthy looking 27.5 incher.

We had arrived on the beach about 2 hours after low tide with plans to fish the rest of the incoming. There was a relatively swift current sweeping from left to right down the beach.

Kenzie was the next to start getting bites, and eventually she hooked up with another healthy looking bass, caught on a SP Minnow.

Throughout the rest of the incoming tide we got sporadic bites every so often, with Charlie landing the biggest fish of the night - a bright bass in the low 30 inch range, also caught on the SP Minnow.

The bronze back SP Minnow was the most productive lure this trip. A very slow retrieve worked best.

All in all we probably caught a half dozen or so striped bass with Charlie's low 30 incher being the biggest of the tide.

We decided to call it quits around 11:15pm, which was about 45 minutes before high tide. To be honest I expected the action would be a bit better, but I'm not complaining.

With it being mid-October, I make sure to cherish every comfortable night on the beach. It was chilly Saturday but beautiful without any wind!

We definitely have to make sure we make the most of every trip because winter is looming just over the horizon.

Tight lines and I hope you have a great night! 🎣
