Weekend Fish Report and Fishing Forecast for August 5

This past week has been ridiculously busy in the best of ways.  We’ve been fortunate to have found a lot of nice fish and have enjoyed some really awesome weather conditions.  I’ll definitely remember weeks like this past week during January and February.

I haven’t had much time to do anything but get the boat ready, go fishing, clean the boat and sleep – which is a great thing.  However I wanted to at least get some sort of fishing forecast up this weekend because there really is a lot of life out there.  I’m happy you get on top of some good fishing so please just let me know.

It may take me a few days to return your call or email but I most surely will eventually.  Thanks for understanding!

We’ll talk about some areas to check out this coming week for big bass and football tuna in the Extended Fishing Forecast which members can access by clicking here.

There are also some really solid surfcasting opportunities happening at this very moment.  I was down at a local estuary this afternoon with my girlfriend Lauren and we witnessed a good amount of decent size bass in the 30 inch range busting schools of what I think were baby pogies.

I think there's a lot of potential to put a nice bend in the rod this coming week.

I actually had a bass in the 34-36 inch range swim right by my feet no more than 5 feet away from me.  I love catching fish from a boat but you really can’t beat catching nice bass from the beach.

So needless to say I’m really looking forward to this coming week.  But first I might as well put together a quick report on a great trip I had yesterday morning with Jim and his two sons Bill and Brian.

Jim with a beauty.

I had really high hopes for this trip because we had been enjoying some really awesome fishing leading up to yesterday morning.  Of course I let the guys know that even though we had been doing really well all week that is no guarantee that we would be able to find the same level of bass action.  Things change by the hour out there – an area that was lit up with life one day can go completely vacant in just a manner of an hour or so, and vice-versa of course.

Fortunately Jim, Bill and Brian all seemed to understand the concept and were still excited to get out there and see what was cooking.

I began cruising around like always keeping an eye out for birds working the area as well as bait and bass marks on the sonar.  It did not take much longer than 10 minutes or so until we started marking bait just off the bottom.  I’ve been hearing that there has been a lot of squid seen in the area so maybe that’s what we were marking.

We pitched the eels in the area for a lil bit and with no signs of bass activity decided to continue searching.  Another mile or so down the beach we marked our first nice pile of bass.  I spun the boat around and plopped us directly on top of the mess of fish.  The guys pitched the eels and eagerly awaited the first bite of the day.

I think Jim was the first to get bit and man did this fish take some good line.  His drag was screaming which is always an awesome sound early in the morning!  After a nice fight he boated a real healthy and plump Cape Cod striped bass.

Not be outdone Bill and Brian quickly caught up with Dad and hooked up with some nice fish of their own.  Just like the days prior we had double and triple hook ups happening on deck.  Great stuff!

We spent the rest of the trip cruising around, finding the fish and pitching the baits. The action was not quite as hot and heavy as the previous week but it was still pretty good overall.  Final tally was 6 nice big bass between 20 and 35 pounds – not bad for a 4 hour morning trip.

The guys had fun and so did I.  Like I said above, I can’t wait to get back out there!

Best of luck if you are able to get out fishing this week.  Hopefully the weather and the fish will cooperate.

Tight lines and take care,

Ryan
