Boston Children’s Fundraiser & Fluke Trip Giveaway

*8/20/23 update > Congrats to our fluke trip winners, Leslie Kalinowski and Joe Vaudo!

Today I wanted to share with you our annual "Fluke vs Cancer" fundraiser for Boston Children's Hospital.

Every dollar raised funds breakthrough research, family support, and vital services not covered by insurance.

The first year we did this members from My Fishing Cape Cod raised over $2,000 and last year we hit $5,000. Let's see if we can top that amount in 2023. 💪🏻

As a bonus, we are going to draw two names from out of the donors to join us on a Nantucket fluke fishing trip!

Any donation of $30 or more will get you included in the drawing.

The first winner will join myself and MFCC member Bruno Demir of Cape & Islands Mitsubishi aboard his beautiful downeast boat the Gaviota.

Bruno started this fundraiser three years ago and has been the leading force behind the effort.

Here is why he decided to get involved…

“I’m fundraising to help Boston Children’s continue its amazing work for kids. Having 3 kids I visit this great hospital whenever my kids are ill. We are fortunate to always walk out the same day, but some families are not that lucky. This donation will go towards their pediatric cancer division research and under privileged families."

The second winner will join Eddy Kooyomjian of Monomoy Tackle onboard his 21’ Steigercraft.

I've fished with Eddy before aboard his Steigercraft for fluke, haddock, stripers, sea bass and bluefish. Eddy knows how to get on the fish!

Together both boats will head out to the fluke grounds for a fun day of fluke fishing the waters around Nantucket Island.

Thank you in advance to anyone who decides to donate to this cause. We are already nearly halfway to our goal with over $2,100 donated so far.

If you decide to participate in the fundraiser, then your gift will help to:

give children treatments they can’t find anywhere else
fuel 3,000+ researchers working to find cures
assist patient-families in crisis with urgent needs, including housing, food and clothing
bring crucial care to families through not 1, but 4 outpatient psychiatry clinics
and so much more
The first year we did this MFCC member Leo Schmidt and Rich Chouinard both won spots onboard the fluke trip and were included in an episode of My Fishing Cape Cod TV!

You can get an idea of what to expect by clicking play below.

Bruno and Eddy will draw the random winners later this month. Once again, any donation of $30 or more will get you included in the drawing.

Here is the link one more time where you can make a donation.

Boston Children’s truly understands the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses, so they can continue to provide the best, most innovative care possible to kids.

I am very excited to team up with Bruno to help raise a little dough for a hospital that does so much for children and families in our area.

Thank you as always and tight lines! 🎣

AMAZING! Thank you everyone for you generosity. Folks from MFCC are really special.

Back in 2017 my youngest child had a close call with leukemia, luckily it was a false alarm and we were one of the families that were lucky enough to walk out of BCH. Over the years having 3 kids I have leaned on BCH many times and we are lucky to live in MA and have access to such a great hospital. After that close call I made a promise that I would always do my part to help the hospital with pediatric cancer, this is my way of giving back every year and every year you folks help achieve a goal for a great cause, the research to end pediatric cancer. Thank you again for all that helped, I will give the fundraiser until end of Sunday and then will pick 2 winners with my cousin Eddie Kooyomjian to bring Fluke fishing with us in the famous Nantucket Shoals.

  • We’re now up to $2,050 – terrific!

As many in this thread have already mentioned, Boston Children’s has touched [many families who are connected to this forum. In fact, Lamont and his son were there just this past week.

Lamont actually posted an update with a great little video that you can watch here.

    Thank you all!

  • Thank you Bruno and Ryan and Eddie – this is so wonderful – as someone who trained and worked there and has the privilege of working with many very ill newborns I can honestly say there is no better cause – you are angels for doing this.

  • Done. Children’s hospital saved my son’s life. He was admitted with a super aggressive form of pneumonia and was in a medically induced coma while they treated him. Forever grateful.

  • Thanks to @Bdemir79 and @CousinEddy for supporting this great cause and to MFCC spreading awareness! Last year the Steigercraft out-fished the Gaviota so let’s see if you can keep that streak alive 🙂

  • Thank you everyone for your support again this year. We are already up to $1400 which is a great start. The fluke are in at Monomoy in pretty good numbers and I am confident that this will be another very productive trip.

  • Great cause and from personal experience, a phenomenal experience with great people if you’re lucky enough to win. And all to help BCH.
    Win win.

  • MFCC friends,

The last two years, Ryan and my cousin, Bruno have allowed me to pick a second name out of the donors list participating in the giveaway and I have been privileged to fish with Rich Chouinard and Tim Whitman. It’s a great day to celebrate a great cause.

I’m hoping to be able to do it again for a third year.

So, thank you to those that donate and those people who fight and help fight cancer each and every day.
