Youth Angler | Canal Rod & Reel Giveaway

Update!

We have selected a winner! Congratulations to Chris Clark and his son Nate. Please stay tuned for more fun giveaways coming soon to MFCC.

We have given away gear before and it's been a real joy, so hopefully we can do the same thing again here today. However, we don't want to just give this gear away to anybody.

We are looking for you to nominate someone under the age of 18 who would really benefit from some new gear, and who would put it to great use. This young person should also set a good example of what it means to be a responsible angler.

The reel up for giveaway is Penn Conflict 6000.

The rod is an 11 foot Tsunami rated for 4-6 ounces. This rod and reel combo could be fished along the beach, or at the Cape Cod Canal.

Included are three popular lures: a Canal Magic Swimmer, a Doc spook, and Guppy Pencil Popper.

And to top it all off, the young angler will also receive a surf bag for stowing the lures, tackle, pliers and other fishing equipment.

If you would like to nominate a young angler, then please let us know by commenting below.

Please include a description of why you would like to nominate the angler you have in mind. You don't have to mention the name of the young angler, instead just provide a few sentences why you think this angler would be a good fit for the giveaway.

On March 29th we will review the nominations and select a winner!

Do you have someone in mind who would be a good fit for this giveaway?

Please nominate a young angler by commenting below.

You don't have to mention the name of the young angler, instead just provide a few sentences why you think this angler would be a good fit for the giveaway.

  • I would like to nominate my eight year old daughter Haylee who will be 9 on 4/25.
She’s been fishing since the age of three,we’ve fished off bridges,in the surf and for the first time last year at the Cape cod canal which was very new and exciting for her with such a great season, not just for the goal of catching fish but for the scenery and the enjoyment of nature and the observation of the marine life in it’s natural habitat.
Good luck to all the nominees and congrats to the winner!

    • Thank you for the terrific nomination!

I am really happy to hear that Haylee has been fishing since the age of 3. That is even earlier than when I started fishing! LOL. My parents got met started when I was 4 or 5.

Anyways, we have already selected a “winner” although every single nomination was certainly worthy. I would still like to send Haylee some My Fishing Cape Cod stickers if you think she would enjoy having a couple?

For the stickers, please email [email protected] with you mailing address and I will get some sent out in the mail right away. ??

  • I think this is a great show of kindness and generosity. Thank you to all those involved. I would like to nominate my son Nate. He has dealt with Epilepsy now since fourth grade. He is a Freshman at Canton High School. For the first time, he will not be able to participate in his favorite sport of baseball this spring. Nate underwent 2 brain surgeries in February to remove the seizure sites from his brain. 12 hours of total surgery and 12 days at NYU hospital. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful. He returned to school half days only just this week. To be honest, the only thing that has gotten him over the hump of the surgery, the sadness of no cure, and not being able to play ball has been fishing. We have read many On the Water articles, read MFCC posts, watched the shows, attended the fishing show in Providence (which was his first time out of the house and back in public), and started learning to tie buck tail jigs. Fishing, which is his first love, has truly helped him overcome the challenges of his condition. The excitement of the upcoming season is keeping him going. He is such a warrior, fisherman partner, and he is my best friend.
    Tight lines,
    Chris

On another note, Ryan, he saw you at the show in Providence and wanted to introduce himself. But, he knew you were busy and on the move and didn’t want to interrupt.

    • Hi Chris ??

Thank you for the wonderful nomination. Nate sounds like an incredible young man! I am so happy that he loves to fish, and I will be praying for you guys that his seizures eventually subside.

We would like to meet up with you at some point this spring and get you the rod/reel and the rest of the fishing gear. I will be very happy knowing that Nate will be putting this equipment to good use ?

I will send you an email and we can figure out when/where to get you the equipment. Tight lines!

  • I’d like to nominate Ed. He’s an eleven year old from Chatham and has embraced the Cape Cod recreational fishing lifestyle. Depending on season you can find Ed going after trout, bass, stripers, blues, albies, blue crabs, and even (because of this years cold weather) ice fishing. He’s a sixth grader at the Monomoy Middle School and last year did a project called “S.O.S. Save our Salmon” to raise awareness for the endangered wild salmon populations. Ed could use this rod to expand his fishing adventures to his new endeavour of concurring the canal!

    • Ed sounds like quite the young outdoorsman!

The “Save our Salmon” project sounds very interesting. Was that a written essay? If so then I would love to read it.

We have already selected a “winner” although every single nomination was certainly worthy. I would still like to send Ed some My Fishing Cape Cod stickers if you think Ed would enjoy having a couple?

For the stickers, please email [email protected] with your mailing address and I will get some sent out in the mail right away. ??

  • I think myself would benefit from this very much I’m not trying to be selfish but I started fishing since 2 grade and now I’m in 7 grade and I’m 13 years old and I just started fishing the canal and I love it there and that rod and reel and tackle would really help me out.
