Last month our first 20 group fishing trips of the year sold out within 48 hours!  Fortunately I just added a new batch of trips to the books, and in this post I'm going to tell you all about them.

Online registration for this brand new batch of My Fishing Cape Cod group fishing trips will open up this Saturday April 20th at 9am sharp.

Our group trips present MFCC members with the opportunity to go charter fishing with some of the Cape's most well respected and knowledgeable captains, at a reasonable per-person rate.  Not only is it fun, but you also get to learn first hand how to catch fish!

Members of My Fishing Cape Cod will get first dibs on all trips and will get the lowest rates. Members will receive an email with a link to where they can register for trips on Saturday April 20th at 9am sharp.  As of right now, these trips are available to members only.

I'm happy to report that we've added new group fishing trips for tautog, sea bass, stripers, tuna, squid and fluke.  We've even booked two overnight canyons trips with legendary Cape Cod charter captain and commercial fisherman Willy Hatch!

To learn more about how My Fishing Cape Cod group fishing trips work, and to view the prices and trips that will be available , please read below.

Fluke are delicious to eat and fun to catch!  Plus during this trip you'll have an excellent chance of catching some absolute monster doormats.

You'll be fishing with none other than the legendary "Jimmy the Greek" who's fluke fishing trips have been featured on various media outlets including On The Water TV.

Responsive Video

This is not your average fluke trip.  Captain Jimmy will take you southeast of Cape Cod and off Nantucket Island to where some of the largest fluke in the northeast can be found.  People literally travel from all around Planet Earth to do this trip with Jimmy.

You'll depart from the southside of Cape Cod early in the morning and could run as far as 40-50 miles to reach the best spots.  Plus you'll have a great chance of going home with a bag full of delicious fluke fillets!

Fluke are really wonderful eating...

Fluke are absolutely delicious, whether filleted or steaked.

Out of all the fish I eat, pan fried fluke is probably #1.

As mentioned above, during these trips you'll be fishing with Capt. Jimmy "The Greek" Koutalakis of On Time Sportfishing on his beautiful 34' SeaVee center console.

The SeaVee is powered with twin Mercury 400hp outboards, and is equipped with the latest technology and gear to ensure a successful and safe fishing trip.

I took this drone shot of Jimmy's boat "On Time" when I went haddock fishing with him during May of 2022.

During these trips you will be heading 100 miles offshore to fish the legendary offshore canyons for yellowfin, bigeye, bluefin tuna, wahoo, marlin, mahi and whatever else comes up in the spread!  You'll also have a great chance of hooking up with swordfish.

Wahoo are just one of the many species you may encounter while fishing the depths of the Northeast Canyons.

For this epic adventure you'll be fishing with legendary Cape Cod charter captain, Willy Hatch of Machaca Sportfishing in Falmouth Harbor.

The Machaca is a 36 ft BHM which was totally rebuilt in 2014 with a new 400 hp cummins motor.  This is a true lobsterboat and a very stable fishing platform for the offshore waters.

The boat is outfitted with top of the line fishing tackle and new Simrad electronics. The Machaca has a current USCG commercial safety inspection for 100 miles plus, and all safety equipment.

Captain Willy (center) is highly regarded as an expert when it comes to fishing the Canyons, as well as in other fisheries up and down the East Coast and even in Latin America.

Captain Willy has fished his entire life since graduating from Union College with a BS in Environmental Science and Fisheries. Aside from chartering and commercial fishing off the coast of Cape Cod, Willy has run charter & commercial boats in Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, North Carolina, Florida and the Bahamas.

Willy is highly regarded as an authority on canyons fishing and comes highly recommended. You will be in good hands both from a safety and fish-catching perspective. Captain Willy has decades of experience, an extensive network of contacts, and the technical fishing knowledge necessary to make these overnight canyons adventures the trip of a lifetime.

During these trips you'll be fishing with MFCC member, captain Jay Cianciolo.

Your captain for these Rhode Island striper trips will be none other than longtime My Fishing Cape Cod member, captain Jay Cianciolo.

For many years Jay contributed words of wisdom and advice on the MFCC podcast and also inside our forum, during his tenure with Laura Jay Charters out of the Sandwich Marina.

For these trips you'll be fishing aboard Jay's 32' Regulator "Cool Change".

Kids and families are welcome aboard all My Fishing Cape Cod group trips!

Jay is still an integral part of the Laura Jay Charters operation, however this year he'll be running trips aboard his 32' Regulator center console in Narragansett Bay, which is where Jay now lives.

As mentioned above, during these trips you'll be fishing for big striped bass using live pogies and flutter spoons aboard Jay's 32' Regulator.  The Regulator is a fantastic fishing platform with a smooth ride and lots of space for fishing.

Captain Jay is plugged-in to the Narragansett Bay striper bite, and I am very excited to be able to offer these trips for MFCC members who reside in Rhode Island or are interested in experiencing this fishery.

Jay's boat is also equipped with a private head (marine bathroom), to make your day on the water more comfortable!

During these trips you will be targeting smaller bluefin tuna in the 50-200 pound range that you can bring home to eat.  Not only is fishing for tuna exhilarating, but the meat of the bluefin is one of the most highly prized seafoods on Planet Earth.

MFCC member JR Hall caught this tuna on his first ever cast during one of our group trips!

You'll have a great chance of hooking into Cape Cod's most powerful fish, and going home with a bag full of delicious tuna steaks!

Seared or eaten raw, bluefin tuna is as good as it gets.

Rec tuna trips will happen on Cullen's brand new 33' Conch.

During these trips you'll be fishing with Capt. Cullen Lundholm of Cape Star Charters on his brand new 33' Conch center console.

Captain Cullen is as dialed-in to the tuna bite as it gets.  He has an extensive network of captains, friends and pilots directing him to the tuna.

One question I often get asked is whether or not there is a bathroom onboard, which there is not. We encourage women to join these trips and we often have women onboard, so I just wanted to mention that.

  • Trip length: 8 hours

Giant Bluefin Tuna Trips

$450/person member rate

  • Wednesday August 7th
  • Thursday September 5th
  • Thursday September 12th

During these trips you will be targeting the largest tunas on Planet Earth.  Giant bluefin tuna are hands down the most powerful and impressive fish we have in Cape waters!

Giant tuna off Cape Cod can be anywhere between 250-1,200 pounds and reach lengths of greater than 10 feet.

This is the type of fishing you see on Wicked Tuna. Giant bluefin tuna are some of the largest fish in the ocean, and captain Cullen has caught giants as large as 1,100 pounds.

Giant tunas are so strong and powerful that you'll each take turns on the rod, giving everyone a chance to experience the fight.

There's really nothing quite like catching and seeing a 500+ pound fish up close and personal.

During these trips you'll be fishing with Capt. Cullen Lundholm of Cape Star Charters on his brand new 33' Conch center console.

Any giant tuna caught onboard these trips will be sold by Cullen. In other words, you won't be bringing home any meat for dinner, or getting a dollar percentage of the catch. You are along for the adventure and the incredible opportunity to learn and see first hand how this type of fishing is done.

Aside from tuna, there's a chance you'll see whales, dolphins, sharks and other marine creatures.

Captain Cullen is as dialed-in to the tuna bite as it gets.  He has an extensive network of captains, friends and pilots directing him to the tuna. You will be going home with an experience you'll never forget, plus invaluable tuna fishing information that cannot be obtained anywhere else.

One question I often get asked is whether or not there is a bathroom onboard, which there is not. We encourage women to join these trips and we often have women onboard, so I just wanted to mention that.

Trip details:

  • Number of anglers: 3-5
  • Trip length: 8 hours
  • Trip time: Around sunrise (exact time will be emailed to you 24hrs in advance)
  • Port of departure: Typically Marshfield, Sesuit, Bass River or Falmouth (exact port of departure will be emailed to you the day before)
  • Area fished: Stellwagen Bank, east of Cape Cod, or south of Martha's Vineyard
  • Techniques used: Drifting or anchoring and using live bait on 80 class reels.
  • Gear and tackle will be provided
  • The perfect crew for this type of trip consists of anglers who are in it for the adventure of heading offshore, seeing whales, and doing battle with the largest fish in the ocean.
  • While not mandatory, it is customary to give charter captains a tip at the end of the trip. For these tuna trips, that would equate to around $60/person.

Tautog Trips

Trip details:

  • Number of anglers: 4-6
  • Trip length: 4-5 hours

  • Port of departure: Typically Taylor's Point in Bourne or Falmouth Harbor (subject to change based on weather)

Squid Trips

Prices are for My Fishing Cape Cod members.  Members may purchase spots onboard trips for their non-member friends and family.

$249/person member rate

Just like Tautog and Black Sea Bass, squid are delicious and are considered a delicacy by many.

Squid aren't as exciting to catch as stripers, but it's still a great time.  The main benefit of going squidding, is bringing home buckets full of fresh calamari for the dinner table.  These squid also make amazing bait for striped bass, so these trips are also a good opportunity to load up on bait for the season.

Here on Cape Cod we are really lucky to have a spring run of lolligo squid.  These squid are fun to catch and wonderful to eat.  They also make amazing bait for striped bass.

During this trip you will be fishing with light spinning rods and squid jigs. You'll have a great chance of going home with buckets full of delicious squid to share with friends and family.

The main reason people go squid fishing, aside from it being fun, is to catch their own fresh calamari.

Squid are aggressive hunters, and during the spring they come into the shallow waters of Vineyard and Nantucket Sound to spawn.

During these squid trips you'll be fishing with Capt. Tyler Putney of Flatliner Charters on his 28' Whitewater center console.

These squid trips will happen on captain Tyler's 28' Whitewater.

Trip details:

  • Number of anglers: 3-6
  • Trip length: 4-5 hours
  • Trip time: Around sunrise (exact time will be emailed to you 24hrs in advance)
  • Port of departure: Along the southside of the Cape between Falmouth and Hyannis (exact port will be emailed to you at least 24hrs in advance)
  • Area fished: Nantucket and Vineyard Sound
  • Techniques used: drifting with squid jigs using light spinning rods
  • Gear and tackle will be provided but you're free to bring your own if you'd like
  • One question I often get asked is whether or not there is a bathroom onboard, which there is not.
  • While not mandatory, it is customary to give charter captains a tip at the end of the trip. For these squid trips, that would equate to around $35/person.

Black Sea Bass Trips

Prices are for My Fishing Cape Cod members.  Members may purchase spots onboard trips for their non-member friends and family.  All trips will be offered to members first.

$289/person member rate

Just like tautog, Black Sea Bass are also delicious and they are great fighters!

Sea bass are beautiful and fun to catch.  Plus if we get our limit quickly, captain Cullen will bring us striper fishing!

During this trip you will be fishing with light spinning rods and lures. You'll have a great chance of going home with a bag full of delicious sea bass fillets to share with friends and family.

Plus if you catch your limit quickly, captain Cullen and captain Tyler will bring you fishing for stripers!

Perhaps the best part about sea bass fishing is the food.  This is as high quality and fresh seafood as you can get.

Anyone who goes on a Memorial Day Weekend sea bass trip will be able to supply their friends and family with a great meal!

During these trips you'll be fishing with Capt. Cullen Lundholm of Cape Star Charters on his brand new 33' Conch center console, or Capt. Tyler Putney of Flatliner Charters on his 28' Whitewater.

One question I somtimes get asked is whether or not there is a bathroom onboard, which there is not.

Trip details:

  • Number of anglers: 3-5
  • Trip length: 5 hours
  • Trip time: Around sunrise (exact time will be emailed to you 24hrs in advance)
  • Port of departure: Typically Taylor's Point in Bourne or Falmouth Harbor (subject to change based on weather)
  • Area fished: Buzzard's Bay or Vineyard Sound
  • Techniques used: drifting over rock piles and shipwrecks, and fishing with light spinning rods and jigs
  • Gear and tackle will be provided
  • While not mandatory, it is customary to give charter captains a tip at the end of the trip. For these black sea bass trips, that would equate to around $40/person.

To learn more about what to expect during these black sea bass trips, please click play below to watch some of the Zoom call we did with captain Cullen.  During the call we go into great detail about sea bass and give an overview of what to expect during these trips.

  • Friday June 7th - 10am-12pm departure
  •  Tuesday June 11th - early morning (4 angler max)

Striped bass is what most folks get really excited about.  Fishing for stripers is the most popular type of trip because these fish get bit, fight hard, are beautiful, and often attack topwater plugs and often baits, and sometimes produce incredible blitzes and adrenaline pumping action.

Captain Cullen with legendary My Fishing Cape Cod member Dick Glockner.  Dick is famous for always out-fishing everyone else onboard (and bringing brownies and cookies)!

During these striper trips you may fish live bait, cast plugs, or vertical jig with spinning tackle. Each person onboard will be provided with a rod, reel and tackle.

During these trips you'll be fishing with Capt. Cullen Lundholm of Cape Star Charters on his brand new 33' Conch center console.

These striper trips will happen on captain Cullen's brand new 33' Conch center console which is perhaps the most spacious fishing platform on the market.

One question I often get asked is whether or not there is a bathroom onboard, which there is not. We encourage women to join these trips and we often have women onboard, so I just wanted to mention that.

Trip details:

  • Number of anglers: 4-5
  • Trip length: 5 hours
  • Trip time: Around sunrise (exact time will be emailed to you 24hrs in advance)
  • Port of departure: Cullen and Tyler trailer their boats to numerous harbors throughout Cape Cod. This allows them to go to where the best fishing for stripers is happening. The port of departure will be emailed to you at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Area fished: Wherever the best striper fishing is happening.
  • Techniques used: It will depend on what's working best. You may cast plugs, fish live bait, or vertical jig with spinning tackle. Each angler onboard will be provided with a rod, reel and tackle.
  • Gear and tackle will be provided
  • While not mandatory, it is customary to give charter captains a tip at the end of the trip.  For these striped bass trips, that would equate to around $40/person.

Guided Shore Fishing Trips

Prices are for My Fishing Cape Cod members.  Members may purchase spots on trips for their non-member friends and family.  All trips will be offered to members first.

$50 online deposit + $300 cash on day of trip

  • Wednesday May 15th - daytime (1 spot available)
  • *Thursday August 1st - nighttime
  • Tuesday September 3rd - nighttime
  • Monday September 30th - nighttime

Trips in bold will require a 1.5 mile hike through gravely sand and then marshland to reach a remote spot that fishes well during the daytime. You'll definitely need to be in decent physical shape in order to do these trips! These trips are better for anglers who have some experience.

*Trips with an asterisk* will take place in a rocky environment. The actual hiking portion of the trip is not that far, but the footing isn't the best. If you are at all shaky on your feet, then trips with an asterisk are not recommended.

Trips not marked in bold will involve a slow paced walk of about 1/2 of a mile on somewhat firm gravely beach to reach the spot. From there we'll fish and walk at a slow pace for the rest of the trip. The return walk back will also be about 1/2 of a mile.

There isn't much better than hitting the beach and catching a striper from shore!

During these trips we'll be fishing some of the Cape's most scenic and productive fishing spots. Together we'll enjoy fresh, cool, salty air while having a great chance at catching some fish. It ought to be an adventure!

I can't guarantee you'll catch a monster striped bass during this trip, however you will have an excellent chance of catching fish, learning something new, and spending time in a beautiful Cape Cod environment.

Trip details:

  • equipment can be provided or you can bring your own
  • 7-9 foot rods with 30lb test will be perfect
  • swimming plugs, 1oz paddle tails, pencil poppers will all work
  • there will be a maximum of 3 anglers plus me

In Conclusion

Trips will sail in less than ideal weather conditions, but that you will not go out if the weather is unsafe. If the trip is cancelled due to weather, then you will receive a refund.

Please also understand that due to the logistics of organizing these trips, we aren't able to offer refunds if you cancel your reservation less than one week in advance, or if you do not show up the morning of your trip.

Please feel free to reach out or post a comment below if you have any questions.  I'm looking forward to the next group fishing trip registration which will once again open up on Saturday April 20th at 9am.

Tight lines! 🎣
