Bluefish and Bonito on the South Side with Amy Wrightson of Sports Port

Mid-August Blues, Bonito, Stripers & the First Albie

Mid-August has brought a welcome shift on Cape Cod, both in the weather and in the fishing. After weeks of thick, sticky humidity, a refreshing north wind moved through this week and took some of the sting out of the dog days of summer. It also arrived alongside some genuinely exciting news for anglers: a long-awaited, sustained push of bluefish has finally shown up within casting range of the beaches along the south side according to Amy Wrightson of Sports Port in Hyannis. 

Amy also reports bonito are scattered thick along the south side and many of her customers are having success targeting them from both the boat and shorelines. Cape Cod Bay continues to be the spot to target large striped bass from the boat, and the first false albacore report of the season has come in from Monomoy.
