Winter isn't downtime—it's prep time. And this February, you have an unprecedented opportunity to learn trophy tuna tactics from the captains who consistently put their clients on fish.
For the first time on My Fishing Cape Cod, four of Cape Cod's most well respected tuna captains are coming together to share what they know in a comprehensive 4-part Zoominar series. These aren't the guys chasing Instagram likes—these are the professionals who deliver results, season after season, in some of the most competitive tuna fishing waters on the East Coast.
While your boat sits winterized and the snow piles up, you could be learning the techniques, and networking with the right people. These are the two main ingredients that separate successful tuna anglers from everyone else who's just hoping to get lucky.
Meet the Captains
Captain Phil Howarth - The Goose Hummock Shop

Phil brings a wealth of experience that spans from Stellwagen to the canyons and everywhere in between. Whether he's targeting school tuna south of the islands or making the run offshore for yellowfin and bigeye, his deep knowledge of the fishery and extensive network throughout the industry give him unique insights. His ability to adapt tactics across different scenarios—from live bait fishing for giants to casting plugs at yellowfin—makes him an invaluable resource for anglers looking to expand their tuna fishing repertoire.
Captain Cullen Lundholm - Cape Star Charters

Cullen runs one of the most respected tuna operations on Cape Cod, with a track record built over hundreds of successful My Fishing Cape Cod group trips throughout the past decade. His ability to consistently find and catch bluefin—from school fish to giants—has earned him a loyal following among serious anglers. Running a custom-built 33' Conch equipped with top-tier electronics, Cullen combines cutting-edge technology with deep local knowledge to put his clients on fish. He's not just good at catching tuna; he's also exceptional at teaching others how to do it, which is why he's become a trusted captain for both newcomers and experienced anglers alike.
Captain Willy Hatch - Machaca Charters

Willy is widely regarded as one of the top tuna captains on Cape Cod and among the most knowledgeable canyon fishermen in New England. With decades of professional charter experience, he's built a reputation for consistently delivering results whether targeting bluefin locally or making the run to the canyons for pelagics. Since joining the My Fishing Cape Cod team in 2024, Willy has run numerous successful group trips for bluefin tuna, including a highly productive 2025 canyon trip with MFCC members. Running a 36' BHM out of Falmouth Harbor, his versatility spans from inshore species to offshore big game, but it's his mastery of tuna (especially south of the islands) and canyon fishing that has earned him a lot of respect throughout the Northeast fishing community.
Captain Tyler McAllister - Off the Charts Sportfishing

Tyler is most well-known for his mastery of harpoon fishing, a skill that earned him a starring role on Discovery Channel's "Harpoon Hunters" and an episode on My Fishing Cape Cod TV. But Tyler's expertise extends far beyond the pulpit—he's equally skilled at catching bluefin on rod and reel. With a degree in marine biology and a specific focus on bluefin tuna biology, Tyler brings a unique scientific perspective to his fishing that few captains can match. He's also deeply involved in the politics and management of the fishery. With 40 years of experience and a rare combination of on-the-water skill and scientific knowledge, Tyler understands bluefin behavior better than just about anyone fishing Cape Cod waters.
What to Expect Across Four Live Sessions
These aren't surface layer overviews. Our Zoominars will give attendees a comprehensive deep dive into bluefin tuna fishing, delivered across four interactive Wednesday evening sessions (7-9 PM) in February.
In addition to what's listed below, we'll cover additional topics based on what you want to learn. Before the series kicks off, we'll survey all registrants to find out what specific questions and scenarios you'd most like to address.
Session 1: Wednesday, February 4th Captain Phil Howarth. Introduction to Tuna Fishing and Trolling for Tuna. Phil will cover the fundamentals that every tuna angler needs to understand—from reading conditions and locating fish to setting up effective trolling spreads. Whether you're targeting school tuna or hunting giants, this session lays the foundation for success across all the fisheries Phil works, from Stellwagen to the canyons.
Session 2: Monday, February 9th Captain Cullen Lundholm. Techniques and Tactics Across Multiple Fisheries. Cullen will break down the full arsenal of tuna fishing methods—from casting plugs and live bait presentations to trolling and jigging techniques that consistently produce. He'll also cover harpooning fundamentals, end-game tactics for landing fish safely, and strategic approaches for Stellwagen, East of Chatham, and Cape Cod Bay. This session gives you the tactical knowledge to adapt to any tuna fishing scenario.
Session 3: Wednesday, February 18th Captain Willy Hatch. Advanced Strategies South of the Islands and Beyond. Willy will dive deep into the unique challenges of fishing south of the islands—where you'll learn to fight fish efficiently, manage the chaos when multiple rods go off, and maximize your hookup-to-landing ratio. He'll also share his extensive canyon fishing knowledge based on what registrants want to learn most. This is where you'll pick up the advanced techniques that separate consistently successful anglers from the rest.
Session 4: Wednesday, February 25th Captain Tyler Macallister. Understanding Bluefin Biology to Become a Better Angler. Tyler brings his marine biology degree and decades of on-the-water experience together in a presentation that will change how you think about tuna fishing. You'll learn how bluefin behavior, feeding patterns, and biology directly influence your fishing strategies—knowledge that turns guesswork into informed decisions. Understanding why tuna do what they do is the key to finding and catching them more consistently.
Why This Is So Valuable
Here's what makes this different from every fishing video you've watched online:
You can ask your questions. Got a specific scenario that's been stumping you? Ask. Curious about how they'd handle a particular situation? They'll tell you. This is live, interactive learning with direct access to the experts.
You'll understand the "why" behind the techniques. These captains don't just know what works—they can explain why it works, so you can adapt and make better decisions on the water.
You're learning from people who actually do this for a living. Not influencers, not hobbyists posting their best days—professional captains plus the Cape's largest tackle shop owner. Guys whose reputations depend on consistent results.
The recordings are yours to keep. Miss something? Want to review a specific technique before your trip? You'll have two months access to rewatch every session.
You'll connect with serious anglers who can become fishing partners. Each session will include structured networking time where you'll meet other committed tuna anglers in breakout groups. Finding reliable fishing partners who share your dedication is often harder than finding fish—these sessions will help to solve that problem. The connections you make here can turn into season-long fishing partnerships, shared local knowledge, and the kind of network that will make you more successful on the water.
This Is Your Off-Season Advantage
By the time spring rolls you'll have spent the winter months learning from the best. You'll understand tuna behavior at a deeper level. You'll have refined your techniques. You'll be ready.
The anglers who invest their off-season in education are the ones who show up prepared when the bite turns on.
