Fluke vs Cancer Returns for 2026
The My Fishing Cape Cod community has always been about more than simply catching fish. It is about bringing people together, sharing experiences, supporting one another, and using our passion for fishing to make a positive difference.
Today, Wednesday, July 15, marks the beginning of the sixth annual Fluke vs Cancer fundraiser, benefiting the pediatric cancer division at Boston Children’s Hospital. Donations will remain open through Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Donate $30 or more for a chance to win a spot on one of two exclusive fluke fishing trips, taking place the weekend of July 24–25 (weather permitting).

More Than $35,000 Raised
What began as a small fundraiser organized by MFCC member Bruno Demir, known in the forum as @Bdemir79, has developed into one of our community’s most meaningful annual traditions.
During the past five years, MFCC members and supporters have donated more than $35,000 through Fluke vs Cancer. Every contribution has helped support the care, research, and resources provided to children and families facing pediatric cancer at Boston Children’s Hospital.
This fundraiser has a deeply personal meaning for Bruno.
In 2016, he brought his youngest son to Boston Children’s Hospital after doctors noticed possible signs of leukemia. Thankfully, the tests revealed that it was a false alarm. However, the fear and uncertainty Bruno experienced that day stayed with him.
While Bruno and his family were fortunate to leave the hospital with good news, he knew that many other families would not receive the same relief. After witnessing the professionalism, compassion, and expertise of the Boston Children’s Hospital staff, Bruno made a commitment to do what he could to support children and families dealing with cancer.
Fluke vs Cancer grew from that promise.

Donate $30 for a Chance to Win
Anyone can support the fundraiser, whether or not they are interested in participating in the fishing-trip drawing. However, each person who donates $30 or more will have their name entered for a chance to win one of two seats on this year’s fluke trips.
The first winner will fish with Bruno aboard his beautiful Downeast boat, Gaviota.
The second winner will fish with MFCC member Eddy Kooyomjian, known in the forum as @CousinEddy, aboard his 21-foot Steigercraft.

Bruno and Eddy will draw and announce the two winners on the evening of Tuesday, July 21. The trips are scheduled to take place during the weekend of July 24–25, depending on the weather.
These trips are about much more than filling a cooler. They offer winners the chance to spend a day on the water with knowledgeable and generous MFCC members, learn new techniques, enjoy plenty of laughs, and hopefully catch some impressive fluke.

Looking Back at the 2025 Fundraiser
Last year, the MFCC community raised approximately $5,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital. The crews enjoyed a productive day on the water, with good catches and plenty of memorable moments. They even came home with a mixed bag of fish, not just fluke!

Each year’s winners may remember the fish, the boat rides, and the excitement of seeing a fluke come to the surface. However, the most important part of every trip is knowing that the experience was made possible by people coming together to support children and families during incredibly difficult moments.
Help Us Reach our Goal

This year, our goal is to raise $5,000 for the pediatric cancer division at Boston Children’s Hospital.
A $30 donation may not feel enormous on its own, but when many anglers contribute together, those donations can create a meaningful impact. Over the past five years, that collective support has added up to more than $35,000.
That has always been one of the most special parts of the MFCC community. We may fish from different boats, beaches, kayaks, and harbors, but we share an appreciation for Cape Cod’s waters and the people who enjoy them.
Fluke vs Cancer gives us an opportunity to direct that community spirit toward an important cause.
The fundraiser is primarily organized for the MFCC community, but anyone is welcome to make a donation. You also do not need to be interested in winning a fishing trip to contribute. For those who donate at least $30, the chance to spend a memorable day fluke fishing with Bruno or Eddy is simply an added bonus.
Donations will be accepted through Tuesday, July 21, and the two winners will be drawn that evening. Thank you to Bruno, Eddy, everyone who has donated during the past five years, and all those who have helped make this fundraiser possible.
Together, the MFCC community has already raised more than $35,000. By coming together once again, we hope to reach our $5,000 goal and continue supporting the children, families, doctors, nurses, and researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital.
