MFCC TV “Behind The Scenes” Of Live-Lining Mackerel For Stripers

Andrew Burke

The first episode of season #2 of My Fishing Cape Cod TV aired this weekend. I hope you were able to tune-in!

Back during the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to join the MFCC TV crew as they filmed this "live-lining mackerel for stripers" episode of My Fishing Cape Cod TV.

I met Ryan Collins and the film crew of Shane Uriot, Evan Schneider of Hop Top Films, and Tyler Adams of the Goose Hummock Shops for an afternoon of live-lining mackerel onboard Jason Mazzola's 23' Seacraft - the Sue-Sea-Q.

A Day in the Life at TowBoatUS Cape Cod/Plymouth

Andrew Burke

This past Labor Day, I had the pleasure of joining captain Shawn Brule of TowBoatUS Cape Cod/Plymouth for a behind the scenes look at their incredible operation.

The plan was for me to hop on board with captain Shawn and film "a day in the life" at TowBoatUS Cape Cod/Plymouth. I met Shawn early in the morning, and in no time at all we were sitting in the middle of Buzzard's Bay waiting for a tow call to come in.

It was quite impressive to see how proactively TowBoatUS Cape Cod/Plymouth operates. Rather than sitting at the dock waiting for a call, we were floating in the middle of Buzzard's Bay ready to spring into action.

Canal Jigging Techniques with JoeBaggs Tackle

Andrew Burke

Hello everyone! I hope you're doing well, and have been able to catch some nice fish this season at the Cape Cod Canal.

Earlier this season I fished with Joe D'Agostino, founder of Joe Baggs Tackle. You can read all about that morning in a post I wrote by clicking here.

As Joe and I fished, he explained some of his go-to techniques when jigging the Cape Cod Canal. He was also kind enough to provide MFCC with a video tutorial detailing a few of those specific techniques.

What’s In Your Bag? Tackle Box Show & Tell

Andrew Burke
MFCC intern

Hello My Fishing Cape Cod! I hope you're doing well, and that you've been able to catch some nice fish so far this season.

Despite the unpredictable weather, the spring run of stripers is here. Surfcasters around the Cape and Islands are hitting the beaches and the canal, and catching some awfully nice striped bass.

One of the challenges shore-bound anglers face is packing the right lures in a practical surf bag solution. It can take time to figure out your ideal surf fishing bag configuration.

A Morning on the Cape Cod Canal with JoeBaggs Lures

Andrew Burke

Hello Everyone! I hope you're doing well, and had a great Memorial Day weekend! I know I had a terrific time hitting the water this past weekend with friends and family.

The fishing hasn't cracked wide open yet, but sporadic keepers have settled into a few areas on the Cape, one of them being the Cape Cod Canal.

Back on the morning of Saturday May 19th, I had the pleasure of joining Joe Baggs Tackle founder Joe D'Agostino on the banks of the Canal. Though the fishing was on the slower side, the beauty of the sunrise more than made up for it.

My First Cape Cod Canal Stripers Of The Season

Andrew Burke

Hello everyone! I hope your spring has been going well, and you've been able to land your first striped bass of the season. The action at the Canal has not been red hot by any means, but more and more fish are funneling into the region by the day, with keeper-sized stripers beginning to show up sporadically.

Over the past several days I've made two trips to the Cape Cod Canal. Yesterday I fished for several hours with Joe D'Agostino from JoeBaggs Tackle, and on May 17th I embarked on my first canal trip of the season, with MFCC member Hayden Gallagher.

I am currently working on putting the finishing touches on some video I shot yesterday with Joe. We caught a few fish and I will have an update ready for you hopefully very soon.

In the rest of this post I'll focus on my first trip of the season to the canal. This past Thursday morning I had my alarm set my alarm for 3:45am, and I planned to meet MFCC member Hayden Gallagher bright and early for some early season action.

Targeting Brook & Rainbow Trout During April On Cape Cod

Andrew Burke
MFCC Intern

Hello My Fishing Cape Cod! Welcome to another edition of the My Fishing Cape Cod Falmouth fishing report for the month of April.

Each month I put together a video that is shown on Falmouth public access television, and today I wanted to share that video with you here on MFCC.

As many of you know, a lot of the ponds here on Cape Cod have been stocked with plentiful and large trout. In this video I hooked a nice rainbow right at my feet, as well as the largest brook trout of my life!

Fishing the Bass Assasin’ Paddle Tail in Cape Cod’s Kettle Ponds

Andrew Burke

Hello everyone! This is My Fishing Cape Cod intern Andrew Burke, checking-in with another freshwater video report. In this video report, we are going to talk about fishing soft plastic lures for wintertime trout.

The key to catching fish in cold water, is a slow retrieve speed and a very small lure.

One such lure is a Bass Assasin' Paddle Tail on a 1/16oz jig head. Any small curly tail grub will work, but I've had great success with the Bass Assasin' soft plastics.

Stellwagen Bank Cod & Haddock

Andrew Burke

On May 19th of this year, I was fortunate enough to fish Stellwagen Bank for Haddock and Cod with non-profit veteran organization, Rifles to Rods

Our own Ryan Collins connected me with Rifles to Rod founder Ryan Puzzo, who allowed me to tag along on a ground fishing trip to the southwest corner of Stellwagen.

This particular Rifles to Rods trip was specifically for veterans over the age of 60, and my objective was to document the trip in photo and video. The night prior, I readied my camera gear, and prepared for an amazing day on the water with a wonderful group of people.

2 Bass on One Cast | Behind the Scenes of My Fishing Cape Cod TV

Andrew Burke

This summer I had the opportunity to help Ryan Collins and filmmaker Shane Uriot shoot an episode of My Fishing Cape Cod TV.

In addition to being an extra set of hands on set, I brought my own camera to film a "behind the scenes" preview of the new television program.

The MFCC TV cast and crew assembled at the predetermined location before dawn. As soon as we arrived on the beach, small fish started breaking on bait very tight to shore.

The stage was set for an action-packed morning along the Cape's shoreline.

Even a First-Timer Can Catch at the Canal

Andrew Burke

After fishing until 12:30am the night before, I cracked my eyes open at 2:45am to hit the water yet again. The plan was to fish a sunrise tide at Cape Cod Canal with MFCC member and contributor Hayden Gallagher.

Hayden and I had made plans to fish together during the 2017 season, and scheduling would have it that last Thursday (May 25th) would be ideal for a meet-up at the Canal.

I was very excited to hit the canal, considering the great reports that have been coming from the general area. However, this would be my first time seriously fishing the banks of the Cape Cod Canal...

How To Fish a Super Strike Popper

Andrew Burke

Hello everyone! I hope the spring run is treating you well, and that you're able to spend some time on the water. The bass are certainly here, with the bigger ones beginning to show up too!

Personally, I've had one lure stand out among the rest so far this season: The Super Strike Little Neck Popper.

The Super Strike Little Neck Popper casts like a tin, swims like a metal lip, spits water beautifully, and should definitely become part of your topwater arsenal.
