Cape Cod Fishing Report | Late April 2022

This past Saturday morning I awoke at 3AM with plenty of energy. It was the first time this April that I was getting up so early to prepare for a day of fishing.

I was excited because the forecast was calling for light winds, bright sunny skies, and warm air temps. Plus it was the Goose Hummock's Kids Fishing Festival!

My plan was to hang out with the kids and their parents, capture some of the event on film, and also do some fishing of my own. The stars were shining brightly as I drove down the mid-Cape highway and I enjoyed an easy ride.

As I was preparing my boat and getting my gear ready, a car pulled into the lot and an enthusiastic fisherman came over to say hello.

It was David Abbot, a member of My Fishing Cape Cod who joined the site back in March of 2020!

I had never met David before, and he would be the first of several MFCC members I bumped into while fishing this past weekend.

A Beautiful Day for Fishing on Cape Cod

Kids and their parents started arriving around 7AM. The crew from the Goose Hummock Shop had supplied all rods, reels and bait, and the kids wasted no time getting lines in the water.

Some of the parents had years of fishing experience, while others were just getting started in their fishing journey. Everyone spread out down the beach and waited for a bite.

For anyone who is interested in taking their kid trout fishing (but has never done it before) then we have some helpful resources here on My Fishing Cape Cod to get you started:

After spending a few hours hanging out with the kids, their parents and the guys from the Goose Hummock, I decided to explore the pond via my 12 foot aluminum boat.

It was a beautiful day this past Saturday April 23rd. To learn more about the event and the pond where it was held, members of My Fishing Cape Cod can click here.

I recently picked up a Minn Kota trolling motor (which My Fishing Cape Cod member Dex Chadsey had posted for sale in our forum) and I was eager to see how it would perform on my little 12 foot Lund aluminum boat.

A small boat with a battery powered trolling motor is an exceptional tool for pond fishing, and I was eager to get underway. I launched the boat and began heading to a small, picturesque cove where I've done well in the past while fishing for trout from shore.

I enjoyed looking at the serene, crystal clear water, and the undeveloped shoreline as I quietly motored into the cove. It was a great day to be alive!

  • What a beautiful day you had! Fishing with the kids and then off on your own in your boat! It doesn’t get much better than that! I really enjoyed the blog! Beautifully written with great pictures and videos. Thanks Ryan!
