As the 2025 fishing season winds down on Cape Cod, anglers who are willing to brave the increasingly unpredictable fall weather are still finding plenty of reasons to get on the water. Amy Wrightson of Sports Port in Hyannis reports that despite recent gales and nor'easters that have churned up the coastline, both striped bass and tautog continue to provide excellent action across multiple zones around the Cape.
South Side Estuaries Holding Resident Stripers
The protected bays and harbors along Cape Cod's south side have emerged as consistent producers for striped bass as we push deeper into autumn. Amy recently ventured out in her kayak to explore the estuarial waters around the Osterville-Cotuit area, where she observed schoolie stripers actively feeding. While her own outing yielded only a single follow from an estimated 20-inch fish, fellow anglers fishing nearby reported phenomenal action!
One particularly successful group working another south side bay reported catching over 20 striped bass during a single outing, with fish visibly moving in large schools.
In this report, Amy goes into great detail on:
- Productive south side fishing areas from shore, kayak, and boat
- Lures that are working well particularly close to shore in bays and estuaries
- Cape Cod Bay boat and surfcasting reports from around Barnstable Harbor
- Tautog reports from south side structure as well as Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay
- Fall freshwater reports from Cape Cod's famous kettle ponds
- How to find out which Cape Cod ponds have been stocked so far this season
- Autumn and winter shell fishing on Cape Cod
