Today I wanted to invite you to our next meetup at 8am-10am on Saturday May 13th at Sandy Neck Beach in Barnstable. This free meetup is open to My Fishing Cape Cod members, as well as to members' friends and family.

If you enjoy fishing the Cape and would like to meet other people who share similar interests, then this meetup is for you! The meetup will be a fun excuse to get together, see some familiar faces, and meet new people who love fishing and Cape Cod.

We'll have coffee from Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters and some awesome prizes! We'll also host an optional long distance-casting competition which will provide great entertainment. Anyone who attends the meetup is welcome to join the competition if they'd like.

There will be an assortment of lures and other prizes up for grabs. You'll even have a chance at winning lures just for attending! A special bonus prize will be awarded to the first person who catches a fish during the meetup.

If you plan on attending, then please just let us know by entering your name and email address below. This will help us to understand how many people to expect.

The rules for the distance-casting competition are very simple.

  • There are two divisions; the first division is for anglers using a 9ft rod or under, and the second division for anglers using a rod larger than 9ft.
  • Anglers will go head-to-head against other anglers, with the winners advancing to the next round.
  • Competitors will all use the same lure, which we will be supply.

Special thanks to longtime My Fishing Cape Cod member Mike Marcus for spear heading this event. This is our 4th annual distance-casting competition and we're looking forward to making it a fun and memorable day for everyone who attends.

Tight lines! 🎣

  • Anyone considered a plug swap? Doesn’t have to be fancy. Everyone who wants to participate brings a fishable plug for trade. Numbers get put in a hat and drawn yankee swap style. Each member then gets to choose a plug to from the pile in number order. It’s all luck of the draw but all in good fun and a great chance to try something new.

  • How about some age brackets for each division?

Kinda tough for anyone over sixty to compete with someone in their twenty or thirtys.

The parts are all worn out and don’t work like they use to.

    • I definitely understand what you mean! Right now the competition is relatively small, so I don’t think we could break it into age brackets at this stage in the game. But in the future if the competition grows, then yes I would certainly consider doing that.

  • Looks to be a great event. I thought it was just long casting, didn’t know fishing was involved too!

I am going to try to make it.
