Friday October 6 Tautog Trip (and maybe some albies)

by Ryan Collins

October has arrived which means it's time to target tautog, which are perhaps the Cape's hardest fighting inshore fish!

This Friday we're offering a My Fishing Cape Cod tautog adventure with captain Tyler Putney of Flatliner Charters. This trip will last approximately 5 hours. Tautog is the primary target, but if the "fish gods" cooperate, then those onboard will also get a chance at catching some false albacore.

I'm bringing my wife to Logan Airport Friday morning so unfortunately I won't be onboard, but I know anyone who signs up will have a great time without me. Captain Tyler is terrific and tautog are fun to catch and amazing to eat.

Please click here to reserve your spot onboard. The maximum number of anglers for this trip is 5 and we'll need at least 3 people to sign up in order for the trip to sail.

Here are the details:

  • Price: $230/person
  • Max number of anglers: 5 (plus captain Tyler)
  • Trip length: 5 hours
  • Trip time: Around sunrise (exact time will be emailed to you 24hrs in advance)
  • Port of departure: Taylor's Point in Bourne or Falmouth Harbor (subject to change based on weather)
  • Area fished: Buzzard's Bay or Elizabeth Islands
  • Techniques used: anchoring over rock piles, fishing with light spinning rods and jigs tipped with green crabs
  • Gear and tackle will be provided
  • Please dress warm and wear sturdy sneakers or boots

*Please know the trip will sail in less than ideal weather conditions, but that you will not go out if the weather is unsafe. If the trip is cancelled due to weather, then you will receive a refund. Please understand that due to the logistics of organizing these trips, we are not able to offer refunds if you cancel your reservation less than one week in advance, or if you do not show up the morning of your trip.

What Members Have Been Saying About Fishing with Captain Tyler

It was a wonderful trip and I hope to have more.

My last trip resulted in a wonderful battle with a huge striped bass on my fly rod - the largest fish by far I have ever landed on a fly (which I tied myself the night before). Thank you to the efforts and advice by your excellent Captain Tyler who put me in just the right spot.

Another successful day for Michelle. Tyler didn’t like the weather out by the sea bass beds so we stayed off of the Yarmouth area and targeted Bonita. Michelle’s first one!
For a while we had an escort, good size hammerhead.

Now Michelle is ready for tautog, we have created a fishing monster, lol

I'm really happy I signed up for these trips through your organization.

I wanted to take this time to tell you how much I enjoyed fishing with Captain Tyler on Monday. At first, I was disappointed that we were not able to go to Nantucket to chase big bluefish, but that feeling faded quickly as Captain Tyler put us onto big striped bass in the Monomoy rips. We then chased and caught bonito for the rest of the morning. He really worked hard to keep us on the fish. That trip and the previous one I had with Captain Jimmy the Greek made me very happy that I signed up for these trips through your organization.

Couldn't be happier!

We had a great trip with captain Tyler. We all had a great time and caught many slot sized stripers. Tyler put us on fish in a safe location well protected from strong southwest winds!

Great day with Tyler!

Had a great day with Tyler catching striped bass. He is an excellent Captain. On the fish and really helpful. A great guy. For being 84, I had a special day.

Tyler did a great job!

Tyler did a really great job of answering my many questions about radar and fish finders and top water plugs, etc. I caught the biggest fish at 38” and another at 32”, and a perfectly slotted one at 29.5

My arms are sore from all the fish we caught!

What a morning on the water at the rips off of Monomoy. Captain Tyler did it again. Getting ready to go again in July.

It was a great trip!

First father and son trip in a few years and Captain Tyler put us on the fish. My son Sean caught is personal best at 38” and we maxed out our keepers. Tyler always makes it a memorable day, and it was fun pairing up with a couple MFCC members.
