Last Call For Gator Bluefish | Part #2

So with the great weather predicted for Tuesday of this past week, I took my kid out of school for the day.

I figured why not. With a good trip on Saturday and the cold setting in, this may be our last chance of the season.

The wife was against it. "What would we tell the school?" she asked.

Being the quick thinker, I replied "tell them our son will have his arm in a cast!"

That made me laugh and helped my lovely wife to lighten up. My son Zach (now off from school) would be coming along. I also took a friend of mine that does a bunch of freshwater fishing, but not a ton of saltwater.

The picture below shows the frost on the window of my boat. Seeing frost on my boat and still being able to go fish brings a big smile to my face.

Love it!

We headed out once again from the area I mention in this forum post. As soon as we arrived at the spot we found birds working, and spotted a school of fast-moving, large bluefish.

After about 45 minutes of poking around I decided to move, and go get me some tautog! However as we headed towards the tautog grounds, my son spotted more birds, and more surface activity.

So like a good dad I changed course again and headed towards the big bluefish. We  ended up hooking and landing a bunch of "Gator Blues."

Once we caught as much as I would like to clean, I convinced the crew to leave the bluefish and go try for some tautog.

Well Tautog we did find, and matter of fact it was some of the best tautog fishing I have had in a while. Only thing was that out of 20+ fish landed, only 2 of the tautog were keepers! Nevertheless the crew was busy pulling in fish after fish and my son had a blast.

As I started moving the boat over to a new area in hopes for bigger Tog, my Striper boat sounded an alarm. Every minute or so the alarm would go off.

I checked all fluids but could not resolve whatever was causing the alarm to sound, so we headed in. As mentioned above this might just be my last outing of the year, so I am glad I took the kid out!

During this trip the bay and the sound was like a lake, and the weather turned out for the best. This mechanical issue will probably end the season for me. My goal was to keep her in the water until Nov 15th, but I cant complain with the year we have had. I think the fishing was pretty special this year!

The boat will be back and ready for fishing early in the spring. Next year I will again plan to extend the season into November. I had an absolutely great time during October on the days we made it out on the water.

Tight lines,

Eric
