Stripers, Toucans, Weddings and Phosphorous

I have this funny feeling that when a guy goes fishing, all he really wants is to catch fish, and enjoy utter silence.

That is really not a strong point for me. So when Ryan asked if I would join him on the little 12 footer for a few hours of fishing, I was stunned.

For one thing, it's a 12 foot boat, so there is no escaping each other.  He can't just "disappear" to the front of the boat to escape my ramblings.  But for some reason, he loves it when I accompany him, so off we went in the little 12 footer.

Night Fishing Onboard
The 12 Footer

It was a beautiful night.  The sunset was shades of pink, purple and peach, all mirrored against the flat, calm water.  It was memorable.  I tried to take more photos but there was no time for that.  We absolutely needed to get to where the fish were.

We cruised the coast line in search of fish, with me in the front and Ryan in the back as he steered us along.

I dreamily looked at all the beautiful homes along the water, fantasizing about all the dinner parties I would host in my future coastal home.

As I sat there with my chin in my hands, shifting this way and that to escape the inevitable boat butt that was surely to come, Ryan made a little "chirping noise" at the sight of some stripers feeding up by the shore.  â€‹

  • Hi Lauren- if it’s any consolation about losing the fish, I lost a really big fish, bluefish, in Barnstable harbor, last week. It was the biggest fighter I have ever had. Not easy. Loads of fun . I too, run through gardening chores, shopping lists and other mundane tasks while waiting for something to happen. Really sweet blog, thanks!

  • I’m sure Ryan’s business mind appreciates you’re marketing prowess… be it intentional or not. Ya reeled me in with that Toucan title.
