What a pleasure it was to fish for large fluke with “Jimmy the Greek” on his first trip of the season!
The Crew
The six anglers in our group met with Captain Jim Koutalakis this past Tuesday at the Bass River boat launch in South Yarmouth.
It was a good group with a range of fishing experience, but with only limited experience in fishing for large fluke. All were older, except my son Alex, who is 27. We had brothers from MA and NJ (Brian and Leo Connolly), responsible for a large volume of the catch; a retired doctor from Mashpee (Peter Kruy), who does a wide range of fishing from his boat all over the Cape; another gentleman from Quincy (Charlie Murphy), who kept pulling in monster doormats – one of which he intended to submit the next day for the state competition; and Alex and me, who are fairly new to saltwater fishing from boats, but game for a challenge.
Departure and Journey

We departed at 6:00 a.m. sharp (as you’d expect from a boat named On Time). It was a perfect day, sunny and clear with a gentle roll. We had a slight chop as we went through the series of rips along the edge of Nantucket.

For this trip we had picture perfect conditions with light winds and calm seas.

Thank you Brad for taking the time to do such a great write-up.
Glad you, your son and the rest of your crewmates had such a wonderful experience. From the pictures it looks like you couldn’t have had a better day of weather and certainly of fishing!
Wow! Beautiful fish! Great write up and pictures!
Brad – Thank you for your fantastic write-up about your fluke trip this week with Jimmy the Greek. What an adventure. You all caught some big, beautiful fish. Our trip on Monday was canceled due to high wind, so I am looking forward to getting out there with Capt. Jim another time.
