Striped Bass: Showing Signs of Life
Ian reports after months of relatively slow striper fishing, recent weeks have brought more positive nights on the water. The key factor driving this improvement appears to be the schooling up of peanut bunker and small sand eels, which is promoting better striper activity closer to shore. This development is particularly encouraging for surf casters who have been waiting for fish to move within casting range.
Boat fisherman have had better luck targeting slot and above slot striped bass according to Ian this season. Many environmental factors could play a role here including increased seal activity close to shore discouraging schools of bass from moving in from deeper water. However, in the past two weeks, Ian has had much better success from shore. This pattern typically signals the beginning of the fall transition when striped bass begin their southward migration and feed more aggressively.
In this report, Ian goes into great detail about:
- Striper fishing post full moon and during this week's north wind
