Our First Trip Of The Year

Garet Suomala

This was my first fishing trip of the year with Ryan. He picked me up at my house during the afternoon back on Thursday April 21st.

Our plan was to get a bite to eat and then walk out onto the beach and fish.

After Ryan picked me up, we headed to downtown Hyannis.

I thought it would be nice to grab a bite to eat at a place with a water view.

Pre-Fishing Dinner

I've been to Spanky's before but I don't think I've been with Ryan.

We both split calamari for an appetizer.

I had their shrimp scampi for the first time ever.

And Ryan had a lobster roll.

We took a few pictures by the water and the marina.

I didn't get too close to the edge because I know if I fell in Ryan wouldn't come to rescue me.

Then after dinner we went to a beach I had never been to before.

The Trek

There were some mammoth houses in this area.

It is amazing how much money people have to spend on big huge houses.

It was quite a long walk out to where we wanted to fish.

  • Nice pics.
Just getting out for some exercise in the fresh air is a blessing.
I sure Ryan would have done a great belly flop to save you.
Looking forward to your next post!
    God Bless

  • Great report Garet.. Dang that Calamari looks great!!!

And the landscape – wow! I get skunked more times than not – but when you’re fishing somewhere like that. it doesn’t seem to matter much. Great lunch.. beautiful scenery. Full Moon.. good company.. sounds pretty good to me! Thanks for sharing. pretty inspiring stuff!

  • Hi Garet – great report, it is making me homesick, because your pictures are from “my” beach and I’m in Mexico right now for a three week language study. I can’t wait to get to the place where you took those pictures!

  • Thank you all for the Awesome comments, Yes it is to bad i get skunked, Ryan did to( If you don,t count the Pogey, Oh well. Happens to the best of us i guess. But at least the night was not a complete wash out. We did catch Octopus( Does that count? Guess not. We will get them next time. If my Guide knows what the heck he is doing. HAHAHA. JK

    Ryan Your the best

  • Nice report Garet! I fished on Saturday at Shell Point in Onset, not even a bump. Took a quick ride to South Cape Beach, windy and very cool, fished flies and small white plastic. No fish, but enjoyed getting out there at least to get some good fly casting warmups for the upcoming season. Hang in there, it will happen!

  • Great report, thanks for sharing! I’m sure as the season gets going your luck will change. I got skunked Saturday…Stripers:1 Ryan:0

  • Garet, thanks for the report and all of those great pictures. Beautiful! We all want to catch fish, but sometimes they don’t always cooperate. It’s what brings us back to fish another day.

  • Thanks for the report Garet. Sounds like a great afternoon out on the shores of Cape Cod with friends. You’ll get into the bass next time, or the time after that…

  • Nice report Garet! Any fish is better than no fish at all! Sounds like your fishing guide had no idea where the stripers were, next time you pick the spot!

  • Nice report Garet!
Don’t worry. I got skunked last night too. My fishing trip ended up to be the same like yours hooking up only pogies. It is always great to be out there in the nature and enjoy serenity. The pictures you took said it all!
