As the Stripers Arrive, Don’t Forget About the Trout!

Garet Suomala

Guest Contributor

Hey MFCC, Garet Suomala here again with another fishy story. This story is about my latest day of trout fishing from the row boat, back on April 24th.

The day started of like any other day.  I worked until 11am at T.J. Maxx, got the bus home, then at a little past noon Ryan picked me up for another fishing adventure.

We did not get right to fishing that day, and instead had to stop at the Goose Hummuck in Orleans first to get some gear.  This was the first time I met Ian Bragdon of Team Goose!

Trout Fishing on Cape Cod | From A Row Boat

Garet Suomala

Hello My Fishing Cape Cod 👋 Garet Suomala here. Sorry I have not written in a good long while, but I am back for another season, and ready to go.

It's been a great winter for me. During March I accompanied Ryan at the New England Saltwater Fishing Show at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

There were thousands of people at the show, plus a couple hundred exhibits. It was fun for me to walk around and see them. Ryan and I also presented two seminars at the show called Secrets of Fishing Cape Cod.

Hello My Fishing Cape Cod friends. Its me again, yes Garet Suomala. I bet you all have missed me, since I have not been writing in a while. Sorry about that!

So without further a-do, here we go. During this trip I had the privilege of going out fishing with my dad John, my roommate Ian, and Ryan of MFCC.

Now for those of you who don't know Ian, he is my awesome roommate. Ian has never done this sort of thing before, and I think this fishing trip was a real treat for him.

Today I will be talking about a fishing trip Ryan and I took along a Cape Cod Bay beach. I am sorry but I don't remember the name of the exact beach 😉

It all began when Ryan picked me up at my house in Sandwich at 4:30AM.

Yes folks you heard me right! However I like getting up early like that, especially when it's for fishing.

Our First Trip Of The Year

Garet Suomala

This was my first fishing trip of the year with Ryan. He picked me up at my house during the afternoon back on Thursday April 21st.

Our plan was to get a bite to eat and then walk out onto the beach and fish.

After Ryan picked me up, we headed to downtown Hyannis.

I thought it would be nice to grab a bite to eat at a place with a water view.

Dowses Beach Fish Pier, Osterville

garet suomala

This is a guest post written by MFCC contributor Garet Suomala

I went fishing at Dowses Beach with Ryan a couple weeks ago before work. We fished on the fish pier instead of the nearby jetty, because the pier is a flat surface, which is much safer for me, compared to the slippery rocks of the jetty.

The second reason I like fishing from a pier is because when we caught fish, it was much easier for me to take them off the hook. For example, my balance is not so good and it would not have been safe for me to try to unhook the fish while my feet were slipping all over the place.

Also, casting was much easier for me on the solid surface of the pier compared to the slippery surface of a jetty, or the rocks along the Cape Cod Canal. So I guess that's why I like fishing on piers and in this report I'll tell you more about fishing at the Dowses Beach fish pier.
