5 Reasons Why Catching Fish Is Always Just A Bonus

Hello My Fishing Cape Cod! Its me again, your friend Garet Suomala. Sorry you guys have not heard from me in a while!

Many of you were probably wondering if I fell of the face of the Earth, but the answer is "No."

Today I want to let you know I will be working the My Fishing Cape Cod booth #0804 this weekend with Ryan at the New England Saltwater Fishing Show

I also want to share with you a new article about why catching fish is always just a bonus. So here goes!

Reason #1: Fresh Salt Air

The first reason why catching fish is just a bonus, is just to be able to get out in the nice fresh air and smelling the salt of the water. Some people might not think that's worth much, but for me, well I really enjoy that aspect.

Reason #2: Good Friends

Ok so here is the second reason why catching fish is just a bonus. For me, its so much fun just to be out on the water with good friends.

And yes, you probably already guessed it, one of my fishing friends is the guy who designed this website, Ryan Collins.

Reason #3: The Bite

Ok that's enough of my "blubbering." Lets get down to business. The third reason why fishing is just a bonus...

Yep you guessed it-is the bite. Fresh salt air and good friends are an important part of fishing, but by far the best thing about this thing called fishing, is getting one on your line!

For me it is so very exciting to see a big ole' striped bass on the end of the line. Of course fighting the fish is very fun too.

Reason #4: Landing the Fish

The fourth reason why catching fish is just a bonus, would be landing the fish. As fun as fighting the fish is, it only makes it worthwhile (at least according to some people) to actually get the fish to shore or into the boat.

Because if you don't...well it can be very upsetting to know that the the fish got away. Plus I think its exciting to know I'm eating something that was just maybe minutes ago swimming in the ocean.

When we lose fish, we have to resort to eating frozen fish, or making a trip to the store.

Reason #5: Getting Back In

Last but not least is number five.  I know what you guys are thinking (did you know I was a mind reader?), seriously your probably thinking "ok cut to chase and wrap up this long article."

Well I will try, which is why this is the last reason. But I want you to know I could of listed many more reasons why catching fish is just bonus.

Well the last reason is getting safely back to shore after a long fun day on the water. And sometimes praying the whole way back in (especially during bad weather) hoping the boat does not spring a leak or the engine stops working.

Because  if the boat sank, well it would be a long, cold swim back to shore, and that would not be much fun at all. Imagine your wife asking you, "Honey how was fishing today?"

And you reply with , "It was a blast until the boat stated taking on water and we had to swim back to shore."

Now that would not be a fun story to tell would it? I trust that you all have seaworthy boats that would never spring leaks.  Be safe this year, and remember that with fishing, you really never know what can happen.

So I hope you guys and gals have enjoyed reading this. And who thought you would get a comedy show mixed too.

So those are my 5 reasons why catching fish is just a bonus. What are yours?

Thank you and take care,

Garet

  • Thanks so much when I first moved to the cape my fishing goals were very off. Now it has changed I just love being on the water and learning

  • Nice article Garet, thanks.
I too enjoy the new adventures that each fishing trip brings. Maybe fishing is our excuse to spend time on the water.

  • Hey Garet,
Thanks for sharing! I like being out in beautiful areas like those in your photos. Tom and Jane Simpson and I spent one night fishing the point right across from where you are in your photo from the pier.
See you at RISAA this weekend. I like your tee shirt, great message!
