This morning was clear, calm and cool – especially at 4AM. My plan was to fish an estuary and hopefully raise a few striped bass to the surface by fishing with top water plugs.

...I woke up this morning at 3:39AM – exactly one minute before my alarm was set to go off. I stepped outside to dead calm conditions. There was not a breath of wind and the stars were shining bright. I could tell it was going to be a very nice morning.
...Continued from the post Sunrise Stripers | April 30 Right from the bite I knew this bass was going to be the largest of the season. Granted I have not caught any monsters as of yet, but this early in the year anything over 20 inches feels good.
...After a week of trudging around in the muck, rain, wind and cold (and some sun yesterday) I encountered a small school of migratory stripers this evening – and even managed to hook a couple of them. These fish were bright, clean and crawling with sea lice.

I find it interesting how much more life these bass had, contrasted to the holdovers of last week. The fight from the holdover bass was much more sluggish, while these guys gave it 110%.

...I can hear the wind tearing across Cape Cod Bay as I write this Cape Cod fishing report. It feels like a winter night here, and it sounds like one too. 46 degree waves are smashing the shoreline and the rain is pelting down – today would not be a good day for the boat.
...I soon learned that casting a small Yo-Zuri or 3 inch Storm Shad into a 30 mph breeze is quite difficult. The deepest part of the channel I was fishing was located a good 30 yards offshore. Small lures were not going to cut it.
...The last Cape Cod fish report I published talked about trekking through marshes, woodlands and boulder fields to find areas holding schoolie striped bass. In this respect today was no different – just a heck of a lot colder.
