This Year’s Hot Tuna Bite Continues

Captain Bob Hovey

Good afternoon MFCC. This is captain Bob Hovey providing you with a late October tuna fishing update.

It seems there are a few tunas just about everywhere right now. From Cape Cod to Jeffrey's I think you'll have a good chance as long as the weather cooperates.

We've had multiple bites where we've been fishing the past 72 hours.

On Sunday October 25th my crew and I landed this healthy 77 inch fish.

That fish bit at the very end of the day, just as it was getting dark. I am glad we stuck it out!

MFCC members can click below to download my 9 minute audio report recapping that trip.

I am back on the water today (Tuesday Oct. 28th) and have so far hooked and landed 3 tunas that were just below the 73 inch commercial limit.

My Fishing Cape Codder Jason Mazzola also landed a sellable fish this morning.

MFCC contributor (and great friend) Jason Mazzola with a bluefin tuna he caught this morning.

The tuna are out there if you put your time in.

Good luck!

  • Bob: Great report. I think we all know the answer, but I’ll ask anyway, was the gaff still in the fish when you got him up to the boat the second time?

    • Joe, the gaff was actually still in him when he came up the second time. Once I put the harpoon in him the gaff fell out, but I was able to keep an eye on it and recover the gaff after I had the fish tail wrapped and cleated off.
