It’s that time of the week where we dive into the most exciting catches and stories from the My Fishing Cape Cod community.
Whether you’ve been out on the water, or just living vicariously through the posts insdie our forum, here’s just a small preview of what’s been biting!
Bluefish From Shore
Starting us off, on August 11th Leo Schmidt had a lively morning of catching his first bluefish of the season from the beach. According to Leo...
"Ran into my first blues of the season yesterday. Got out early for the last hour of incoming and ended up staying for the entire outgoing. Started off slow with just one missed hit in the dark. Once grey light came I caught one small schoolie of about 22-23 inches.
A pod of about 5 seals came through shortly after and shut the bite down for a bit. Then some fun size blues rolled in and hung out for the tide. Hooked into 11 total, landed 6… luckily I was fully stocked on leaders and soft plastics."

Buzzard's Bay Bonito, Bass & Spanish Macks
On August 10th, William Shine had some luck out in Buzzards Bay, where he snagged a bonito under some breaking fish. William was out on his 22ft Eastern when he spotted birds diving—always a good sign.
He got his line in the water and landed a bonito, which have been in thick in Buzzard's Bay and elsewhere around the Cape.
On August 14th, Peter McLaughlin got into the excellent Buzzard's Bay bonito bite, while also landing some nice bass!
Peter reported that most of the bonito were caught on pink epoxy jigs in the 7/8 oz size range, with a couple more caught on white epoxies in 7/8 oz.
According to recent reports being shared inside the Buzzard's Bay topic of our forum, Spanish Mackerel have also made an appearance in the bay.

Monomoy Bonito, Bass & Spanish Macks
On August 11th, Grant Stark had one of those days (again) at Monomoy that makes you want to drop everything and head to the water.
He boated over 20 bass, 20+ bonito, and even managed to hook a Spanish mackerel!
“Crazy day again,” Grant summed up.

Triggerfish off Martha's Vineyard
On August 10th, Derek Jones had an interesting catch off Noman's Island over by Martha's Vineyard, where he pulled in a serious triggerfish using a butterfly jig.
Triggerfish aren't super rare in the waters surrounding the Cape & Islands, but they definitely aren't your everyday catch, which makes it all the more noteworthy.
“Caught a pretty serious triggerfish using a butterfly jig off Nomans,” Derek shared.
Derek’s been putting in the time this year and it's been paying off.
Awesome unique catch Derek!

Boston Harbor Bass Action
It's a little dated, but back on August 2nd Graham Stephens shared some thoughts on the bass action in Boston Harbor. He mentioned that it was a “magic day” with big bass feeding aggressively from Scituate to Hull.
Graham noticed the difference in bait this season compared to last, with pogies dominating the scene.
“Wall to wall pogies this year versus few pogies around in 2023” Graham pointed out.
More recently, on August 13th MFCC member Chris Gonyer posted about the Boston Harbor adventures he's been having with his son "The Fish Monster"...
There's also been rumors of tuna crashing the pogies in shallow, and many videos of whales feeding on the pogies have been circulating social media.
