As the weather gets colder there will be more black midge hatches on the kettle ponds in Southeastern MA.

The stocked trout from last year will key-in on this food supply, and the new stockies will soon begin to figure it out…eventually.
The best flies for imitating these hatches are a midge pupa, size 14 and 16 on a long leader tapered to a tippet of 5x or 6x.
