Plugging the Cape Cod Canal

Striped bass can be caught in a multitude of ways.  From fly fishing to wire line jigging, there really is a technique for everyone and for almost every situation.

While you will never catch me complaining about a bass on the end of my line, I will admit that I find certain methods to be more fun than others.  For example I would much rather target stripers at night with live bait, than jig 300 feet of wire during the midst of a late August heat wave.  I'm sure you also have your preferred methods for pursuing striped bass.

Over the years I have met many anglers with differing opinions on what they believe to be the most exciting way to catch a big bass.  I have had a few folks say live bait, trolling etc.; however the most popular method, by far, is casting top water plugs.

Top water plugging is downright exciting and addictive.  The sight of a cow striped bass crushing a plug on top is a sight not soon forgotten.  It gets the adrenaline pumping to say the least.

Your chances of getting in on a top water blitz certainly improve if you have a boat at your disposal.  Much of the best top water action occurs far from shore.

However there is something special about casting plugs to big bass with your boots planted securely on terra firma.  At certain times in a few chosen areas, the opportunity to target stripers from shore on top water plugs presents itself.

The Cape Cod Canal is one such spot where anglers routinely intercept big striped bass on top-no boat required.
