Solid Stripers and Black Sea Bass

Capt. Cullen Lundholm

Hello My Fishing Cape Cod, this is Cullen from Cape Star Charters and I am happy to be reporting again for you this season.

In this report I would like to fill you in on what I have been doing. I have taken several charters from MFCC over the past two weeks.

Last week I had a group of My Fishing Cape Codders onboard for an early morning Friday trip. We departed the marina at around 5:30 or 6 o'cock and cruised out with flat calm conditions.

Our first stop was to grab some live mackerel. Then we brought in our lines and headed East, where we soon encountered lots of birds and lots of life.

It was really good to see this many fish up on the surface this early in the season, especially for the area we were fishing.

There was a big variety to the size of the fish. The bass were as large as 43 inches and as small as 20 inches.

We caught fish on topwater, we caught fish vertical jigging, and we caught fish on live mackerel. The live mackerel tended to provide us with the bigger fish.

  • Great report. Glad to see the action continues – and the bass keep getting bigger. Also – glad to hear of the large numbers of fish. Hopefully it stays that way for years to come.
