Mark your calendars for The 36 Hour Grind - My Fishing Cape Cod's 4th annual surfcasting tournament!

This year's tournament will happen the weekend of September 27-29. This is a team event and registration is now open for MFCC members.

Please

Login or start a membership to register for the 36 Hour Grind. At least one angler on each team must be a member.

Kevin Johndrow and Jay Linscott won last year's 36hr Grind. This 46 inch monster taken by Jay is the biggest striper ever caught in the tournament!

The tournament will officially start at 6pm sharp on Friday September 27th. It will go until 6am on Sunday September 29th.

The awards ceremony will be at Sandy Neck Beach at 8am on Sunday September 29th. I’ll be encouraging all MFCC members to attend because it will be a nice opportunity to meetup and get together!

Last year's competition was intense with a very exciting finish and some really big fish were caught. With all the surfcasting talent we have on MFCC, let’s see how you can do under tournament conditions!

Tournament Rules

  • The tournament will run from 6pm on September 27th until 6am on September 29th. You are free to fish as much or as little as you’d like during that timeframe.

  • This is a team event and each team will have 2 anglers. Teammates must fish together and stay together.

  • In previous years you had to fish on the Cape-side of the canal. This year to increase participation from our South Shore members, fishing from shore in the towns of Kingston, Duxbury, Plymouth and Wareham are allowed. However, the Cape Cod Canal itself will remain off limits.

  • Anglers must fish from shore. Fishing from boats and kayaks is not allowed. All fish must be caught with two feet firmly planted on land. However, you may use a boat or kayak to access offshore rocks, islands or sandbars. You may also swim out to rocks or other spots.

  • A qualifying striped bass must be at least 22 inches long and clearly photographed on a measuring tape. One angler will hold the striper on the measuring tape while the other angler takes the photo. The official measuring tape is this one from Cuda. Anglers may use a different measuring tape or measuring board, but preference will be given to teams using the official Cuda measuring tape. In other words, if two teams have the same total inches, with one team using the Cuda tape and the other team using a different tape, then the team using the official Cuda tape will be declared the winner.

  • Measure the fish from the bottom jaw to the end of the tail. Pinching the tail to gain an extra inch is not allowed. I will likely send out photos and videos explaining exactly how to measure fish so we all follow the same principles.

  • A team’s total score will be the combined length of your three longest fish.

  • This year team's will submit their final scores using an online form which will be emailed to the teams over the weekend. The cutoff for submitting scores will be 6am on Sunday. Make sure you get your scores submitted on time! The top 3 teams will be required to submit photos of their qualifying fish.

If you haven't already signed up for the tournament, then please fill out the tournament signup form below to get registered - it's free!
