This morning I recorded a podcast with Cullen Lundholm of Cape Star Charters and learned about an amazing topwater bite that he's been experiencing the past few days off Cape Cod.
There are no guarantees in fishing, but right now Cullen and his crews have been consistently catching 25+ pound striped bass, mostly on topwater plugs.
There have even been rumors of a couple 50 pound bass caught...

Big Bass On Top
The bass in the area where Cullen's fishing have been all quality fish. These are definitely not schoolies!
These big fish have been gorging on mackerel and sea herring. Large surface feeds with bass crashing on the surface has been relatively common.
Because the fish are feeding on top, large plugs have been very effective. This is pretty much as exciting as it gets with regards to striped bass fishing off Cape Cod.
If the topwater bite cools down, then jigs fished on light spinning setups has been the ticket.
Cullen has heard rumors of a couple 50 pounders being caught in this area.
The action has been taking place a long ways from the dock but the ride has been worth it.
What I am going to do is organize a MFCC group fishing trip with Cullen for this coming Friday morning June 19th.

Sea Bass Still Hot
As you'll hear us mention in the above podcast, the sea bass bite on Cape is still holding strong.
Cullen's crews have been catching sea bass, but so have plenty of MFCC members. For example, Eric Meyer and his kids have been doing very well on the sea bass.
Nice work guys!
The good sea bass bite may start to cool off very soon, so definitely enjoy it while it is still here.
In other news it appears that the tuna have moved elsewhere....
Before the commercial bluefin tuna season opened on June 1st, pilots were reporting a fair amount of 100 inch fish on Stellwagen Bank.
Unfortunately it appears that those fish have scattered and moved on. Perhaps they headed north, but the fish travel fast and could return at any moment.
For more information I recommend listening to today's 10+ minute podcast. Cullen and I discuss the details of what's happening right now on Cape Cod for striped bass, sea bass, tuna and even fluke.

Hey, Ryan, any room on Friday’s trip?
Hi Lori!
That trip filled up very quick but I will definitely email you an invitation when we do another.
Great information! Thanks Cullen and Ryan for pointing some of us in the right direction!
No problemo Ryan, a group of us from MFCC are heading out with Cullen this Friday AM so we shall see how it goes!
I know he did well yesterday and is probably back out there again today.
