The May 7th Surfcasters’ Meetup & Distance-Casting Competition

Come meet other people from My Fishing Cape Cod who fish the beach, and participate in a completely optional distance-casting competition, on Saturday May 7th at 9am at Sandy Neck Beach in Barnstable.

Simply click here to register online - it's FREE!

This meetup will be a fun excuse to get together, see familiar faces and meet new people from MFCC. If you enjoy fishing Cape Cod from shore and would like to meet other people who share similar interests, then this meetup is for you.

The meetup and distance-casting competition will start at 9am sharp. We'll have coffee and pastries from Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters and some awesome prizes and giveaways!

The distance-casting competition will be the focus of the meetup, and will provide great entertainment. Special thanks to longtime MFCC member Mike Marcus for organizing this part of the event!

All I ask is that you kindly register online in advance so we know how many people to expect.

The rules for the distance-casting competition are very simple.

  • There are two divisions; the first division is for anglers using a 9ft rod or under, and the second division for anglers using a rod larger than 9ft.
  • Anglers in the 9ft and under division will cast a 1oz pencil popper. Anglers in the 9ft and over division will cast a 3oz pencil popper.
  • Anglers will go head-to-head against other anglers, with the winners advancing to the next round.

And here are the prizes and giveaway items that are up for grabs!

  • Everyone who attends the meetup (even if you don't participate in the casting competition) will be eligible to win a Portarod inshore rod rack valued at $189!
  • Everyone who attends the meetup (even if you don't participate in the casting competition) will also be eligible to win an assortment of lures from Joe Baggs Tackle and Al Gags!
  • 1st place in each division will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Goose Hummock's online store themightyfish.com, 2nd place will receive a $25 certificate.
  • There will also be a special bonus "mystery prize" for the first person who catches a fish while casting in the long-distance competition.
  • MFCC bumper stickers will also be available for anyone who wants them.

In conclusion I am very much looking forward to this Saturday May 7th and I hope you will attend!

As mentioned above, please kindly register online in advance so we know how many people to expect.

Whether you plan on participating in the competition or just swinging by for a hot cup of Snowy Owl Roasters coffee, it would be great to see you!

  • Good Morning Ryan . You may need to look at projected weather conditions for Saturday I report I have seen is 30 mile an hour winds. Peace and Prayers Carl

  • Do the plugs we use at one or three ounces need to weigh in at one or three ounces? Can they be less ? Peace and Prayers Carl

    • I will supply the plugs Carl. I think that is just the fairest way to do it. That way everyone is casting the same thing. I was planning on supplying everyone with the same 3oz plugs for the “Big Bomber” over 9ft division, and the same 1oz plugs for the “Daily Driver” 9ft and under division. If someone in the “Big Bomber” division wants to use one of the 1oz plugs, then that is perfectly fine. Keep me posted with any other questions or ideas. It’s a learning experience hosting an event like this, but it’ll be fun!

      • I like the idea on you providing all of the same plugs for the distance that for me makes it a more fair event . Peace and Prayers Carl
