Today was excellent! The weather was picture-perfect for early spring on Cape Cod, and on top of that I was able to put a bend in the rod for the first time this season.
The even better news is that it's only going to get better! Both the fresh and saltwater bite will improve with each passing day.
In this report I want to share with you where and how I was able to get the skunk out of my season. In addition I want to invite you to join me for a special event this coming weekend, which is going to be a lot of fun.
Big Fish Saturday, April 5 At 4PM
Before I hop into this report, I want to invite you to join me this Saturday, April 5th at 4PM at Bass Pro Shops in Foxboro, MA for a video presentation on targeting big striped bass from the beaches of Cape Cod.
In addition to my 4PM presentation, you can check out presentations earlier in the day by some of New England's top captains, including Paul Hebert from Wicked Tuna and Terry Nugent from Riptide Charters.
Video, Details & The Nitty-Gritty
I plan on utilizing as much video footage as possible for this presentation, so we can break down the nitty-gritty details and help you improve your chances at a nice striped bass this season from the beaches of Cape Cod.
After the presentation I would be more than happy to answer any questions, chat about anything, and even help you pick out specific gear and tackle if you need assistance.
This will be another great opportunity for me to meet you in-person, which is a nice change of pace because I know most of you only via blog comments, emails and Facebook posts!
Finally Some Mild Temperatures
I knew I was going fishing this week as soon as I read the forecast for sunny skies and 50 degrees. Man does it feel nice to have some mild temps and once again be outside.
I really wanted to put a bend in the rod so I decided to try some freshwater fishing. Fortunately for me Cape Cod has some of the best freshwater fishing opportunities in the entire state.
Right now you can catch largemouth bass, pickerel, perch and trout to name but  a few of the many species that live in Cape Cod's kettle ponds. This early in the season, hooking up with a 1 pound trout is nearly as exhilarating as hooking a 40 pound bass at the Cape Cod Canal.
Setting Off Into The Woods
One of my favorite ponds is located far away from houses and busy roads. The pond is completely surrounded by trees and at times I feel as if I am fishing in Maine instead of Massachusetts.
The woods even sounded like spring.
I heard bird calls I have not heard since last year, and watched with intent as a hawk circled high in the sky.
A flock of ducks flew over my head and a gaggle of geese sat in the water across the pond. This was as good a cure for cabin fever as any.
I had a great feeling as I tossed my first cast into the pond. Spring my friends has most certainly arrived.
