If you follow My Fishing Cape Cod on Snapchat (username: fishingcapecod) then you know I fished Rhode Island this morning.
Expect more on that trip coming soon, but for now I would like to focus on the spectacular surfcasting I've been encountering throughout the Cape area.
There are other My Fishing Cape Codders doing well from shore right now too. Whether it be from the canal or from the beach, we are receiving many positive reports via email, in our forum and on social media.
The following videos were filmed on the night of Thursday July 28th, however I know similar size bass were caught in this same area yesterday and the day before. I expect these fish to remain in this area for at least the next 3 weeks.

Believe it or not, I think these big stripers are feeding on tomcod. While snorkeling in this area I have discovered many tomcod hiding around rocks and boulders.
Nighttime is by far the best time to be surfcasting right now. During the day these bass are holding far offshore, well out of casting range. The fish are also much more aggressive and easier to fool after dark.
I have included some extra material below for members of My Fishing Cape Cod. Members can download general information about the location and access a new video about the technique I am using.
Members can also access information about the most productive tide to be fishing right now, as well as all the gear and equipment I am using and personally recommend for this type of fishing.

Ryan,
How do you like the Super Slick? Do you feel you can cast further than with regular Power Pro? How has it held up? I’ve read some reviews that claimed it degrades over time and the coating wears off. Does the slim beauty knot work as well with the SS as it does with the PP?
I like it but not as much as Daiwa Samurai braid. Samurai Braid is the best in my opinion.
So far the Super Slick is holding up well but keep in mind I have only used this particular spool of Super Slick for about a month.
Slim Beauty holds just fine.
Game on!! We spent the winter talkin the talk, fish are here. Great videos Ryan
Game on is right Jack! Good luck out there this weekend.
Looks like I might travel this week. Looking forward to the RI report.
Good luck in your travels. No fish at RI but I look forward to trying there again in the fall > https://myfishingcapecod.com/fishing-exploring-rhode-island/
Great info and awesome footage! It’s definitely the right time to be slinging snakes…with the new moon, time to be fishing hard. Awesome trip, congrats!
How’d do you do last night Ryan???
It set up to be great, but there didn’t end up being much action. One 35″ and a half dozen ‘bumps’ for the three of us. That spot though is great. Easy access and terrific structure/current. I’ll definitely be going there more before the end of the season.
So you fished RI and didn’t even stop by to say hi … tsk tsk tsk …
Hope you were super successful!
LOL, really enjoyed exploring RI. No fish but I hope to give it another try this fall. By the way, awesome write up about your Block Island trip.
Fall = South Shore beaches (Charlestown Breachway)
Cape cod is definitely on fire right now, there are tons of fish in the canal, and from the surf.
Nice Hayden, pumped to hear you are catching.
