My Dad and I awoke at 2AM with an eagerness that only comes on flat calm, no wind mornings. We are a bit more groggy in the morning when it's blowing, especially out of the north or east.
This would be my first fishing trip on my boat all season long. This spring I focused on surfcasting, but now that summer has set in, I will be on the boat a lot more often.
In this report we found absolutely perfect conditions, seals, undeveloped coastline, big bluefish and finally, some striped bass.
An Incredible Morning With A Perfect Sunrise
Perhaps the most dramatic moment of our entire trip happened right at 5AM, when the sun began to poke over the horizon. Mesmerizing colors refracted off the water and into our boat, there was no noise, and everything was absolutely still.
That was until I began  noticing small swirls and disturbances on the surface of the water, all around our boat and off into the distance. I motored us over to one of the patches for a closer look...
Beyond the fist patch was another, and another, and another. The place was inundated with mackerel. We had found plenty of bait and now only had to find the predators.
The Search For Stripers (and some bluefish)
My father and I spent a long while searching around before we finally found some bass that would cooperate.
We stumbled upon some pretty large bluefish as well.
And just before dark, moments before almost deciding to call it a trip, we were greeted by the coolest surface feed I've seen all season long.
Please don't expect me to reveal every little detail, including where I was fishing, in the extended fishing report.
However I will share with you a lot of helpful information, photos and tips in the extended fishing report, which I feel will help you this week while fishing on the water. MFCC members can access the extended fishing report by clicking below.
